Picnic food for grown ups? nothing messy!

champagnesupernova · 15/07/2010 06:49

Contributing to a picnic for 12 adults at the weekend.

Had originally planned a couscous style salad, some quiche and some crudites with dip.

But it's been decided that finger food is easier and someone else is doing quiche and dips. Bugger.

What else is fairly hassle free?

Am thinking some savoury muffins - any ideas?

thanks in advance

How about home-made samosas served with mango chutney.

What about falafel or mini-pizzas with grown up toppings (thinking along the lines of goat's cheese, sun-dried tom, rocket, etc)

How about Spanakopitas - spinach and feta triangles with filo pastry, really easy to make and universally liked..
Also, to keep the easy theme going, puff pastry smeared with sundried tomato sauce and some grated hard cheese, rolled up and sliced into 1cm thick slices. Great fingerfood...

frittata?
chicken drummers are always a hit, cover the ends in foil to prevent any sticky mess!
a nice cheeseboard?

iirc HFW has some savoury muffin recipes but i haven't actually tried them
am also wondering whether JO's or nigella's site might be worth a look at

Sticky sausages (with some cocktails sticks) always disappear in a flash at ours - cook cocktail sausages, then coat in a mixture of runny honey & mixed herbs that been gently heated til runny. Grown ups & smalls both adore them

This galette thing also looks yummy www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/recipes/7860865/Rose-Princes-recipes-for-July-Summer-galette.html.
