Rice have BB date!?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/07/2010 11:14

if it doesnt smell damp and its not got bugs in it, it will be fine.

My mum always says the older rice is the better it is. I would have used it too.

wahwahwah · 14/07/2010 14:30

No. It should be fine as long as there are no weevils in it!

Apparently basmati is best aged according to my Kenyan neighbour. She buys those huge sacks when she still has 2 in store so they are aged at home- her rice is therefore usually between 3-9 months past its BBE ... Dont know if it is really true, but her food is lush!

As long as it hasn't got damp. I have relatives in the middle east and they thought I had gone mad when I told them that I'd thrown out some bags of rice that were past their sell by.

My sister was even more horrified (she who fed her husband fish that had been in the freezer for at least 2 years!). Dining there is a bit... russian roulette. I think she is trying to see how long thigs can really last past their sell by. I think it has become some sort of mission with her.
