If a fish dies within 24 hours of purchase am I entitled to my money back?

Bought 3 Corrys yesterday to keep my lonely bandit corry company, chose the biggest Corrys they had ( similar size to the bandit ). I know I should have a hospital tank but I just havn't got the space so I put them straight into my community tank, my bandit perked up almost straight away ( he had been hiding since he lost his friends ) and they all seemed happy. Then this afternoon I found one on its side , I removed him straight away and put him in a plastic tub, for a while he perked up but then went back onto his side and sadly died. There are no real marks on him, maybe slightly red around the gills, tested my water and all is spot on ( no ammonia ), I'm thinking he may have had ammonia poisoning from the shop or from the supplier ( shop only got them the day before I think, I know they get deliveries on a Friday ).

I was going to go back tomorrow to buy a male betta that I spotted ( have a small tank set up for dd ), should I take the dead fish to show them,do they have to refund me? I don't really want them to replace incase they give me another ill fish.

I have had problems with this shop before and have lost most of my fish from buying a ill fish, I know I shouldn't go back to them but from time to time I get some good finds there at bargain prices.

A lot of shops have a refund policy if the fish dies within a certain time frame, but you'll probably need to take a water sample and talk them through your acclimatisation process.

If the shop keeps selling you ill fish then they don't sound like bargains tbh. I'd go elsewhere, especially if you don't quarantine your fish- you could end up losing all your livestock.

Thanks Eau, they refused to refund me. I won't be going there again, I only bought them as I couldn't find any larger breeds of Corys anywhere else ( so took the risk ), the other 2 are fine and I bought them some albino's today from Maidenhead.

As long as you don't get any of the dwarf cory species then slightly smaller ones should be OK. Hope the new ones settle in- are they aeneus?

The ones I bought last week are Trilininus , the ones I got today were just labeled Albino but they seem to be a good size, so I now have a mixture or Trilininus (sp), albino and Matae.

Trilineatus? The albino ones are prob aeneus then, most albino ones are. They should be pretty happy with other corys to play with.

i had a hamster that only lasted a few days, shop replaced. they didn't need to see the body

I think that's what they are ( wasn't sure how to spell it ) , they all seem happy at the moment, the metae is still being a bit of a loney but he has been used to his own company for quite a while. The albinos are dashing up and down the tank.

Aw, they sound like they're having fun Mine used to chase each other around. I miss having corys, they are so sweet.
