Can you catch anything from a fish.I read somewhere that someone had noduley little lumps on their hands and the GP put it down to handling fish.True or False?

Well I have never heard that before. I wonder if its contamination from dirty river water (presumably you mean fishing and handling fish). The only connection I know is the eating of fish and mercury ingestation.

You can indeed contract several infections from fish that may be carrying them, including Fish Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium marinum), Aeromonas, fungal infections and Salmonella, to name a few.

Contaminated water does of course spread water-borne diseases including Cholera and Typhoid; as well as conditions brought about from exposure to water contaminated with heavy metals such as lead.

However, the actual risk of a contracting a disease is low provided you follow simple hygiene guidelines.
