I'm no horror fanatic but I loved it, amazing film.

Loved it! Apparently the book is v. good also.

I had a theory that the story was sort of cyclical and that the boy would grow up to be like the man.

Iklboo · 19/05/2010 14:01

We've recorded it for weekend.
BUT they're doing a Hollywood remake (natch) here

RoscoPColtrane · 19/05/2010 14:06

The film is good, but the book is much better!

pagwatch · 19/05/2010 14:13

oh it is just brilliant. I am squeamish but put my loathing of horror on one side after hearing Mark Kermodes review. It is a fabulous film

I don't think Hollywood will be able to match it. They will take its still quiet beauty and want to fuck with it. They can't help themeselves

ThreadKillerQueen · 19/05/2010 14:27

Oooh I have this sky+ed, must make an effort to watch it...

ipanemagirl · 19/05/2010 23:33

redandgreen I thought exactly that as well, so creepy!

Iklboo I heard that too, it ain't right.

pagwatch that's why I watched it, am a huge kermode fan! And traditionally i am a total horrorphobe. (But I wonder whether he is becoming a leetle bit too interested in himself and the phenomenon of himself and there's probably a literary critical word for it like uber self referential or something but he's in danger of climbing up his own fundament and dying there don't you think? I mean, all that arse kissing of actors, just STOP please... I feel another thread coming on. Your thoughts much appreciated. I do hail him but I fear the Arse quotient...)
I must read the book
dh reading the Dragon Tattoos and loving them, I'm a little scared, are they scary? Horribly violent?

Wonderful film, and even better novel. Unputdownable.

spaceforthree · 04/07/2010 17:49

Brill film. Saw the trailer for the US version (at Eclipse - yay!) yesterday. Must say it looked suitably creepy and bleak so maybe they haven't ruined it.

janeite · 04/07/2010 17:58

I read the book on holiday next year (reading about vampires by the poolside was surprisingly good fun!). I enjoyed the book apart from the silly gore-fest ending but don't 'do' horror films. Dp has got it on DVD but I don't know if he's watched it yet.

janeite · 04/07/2010 18:01

I read it LAST year, not next year - I may be a fast reader but I'm not that FAST. I am also v v stupid.

TheMysticMasseuse · 04/07/2010 21:42

loved the movie. Didn't consider the cyclical component until a friend pointed it out, and that made it somehow very, very creepy and devastatingly sad.

DandyDan · 11/07/2010 21:20

Creepy, sad and wonderful in the original. Don't watch the American remake.
