And why do they only release certain dvds at certain times. Would love to get the Lion King and the Little Mermaid for dd but do not want to pay upwards of £30 for a 1994 version! Why on earth do they not just have them on general release all the time??!!

to keep the price high

Maintains the 'exclusivity' of the Disney brand. Apparently it'd be diluted if old films were available all the time, and kept turning up in car boot sales.

And to keep the price high, like Eldon said.

yep. back in the olden days before DVD they released the films in theaters every few years and if you missed it you just had to have a rich relation with the Disney Channel on cable and a quick Record finger. Not that I would know anything about that [whistles innocently]. I wish they still did that. DD would love seeing Aladdin in theaters.

IIRC they try to release the classic films, like Lion King, every seven years. Or used to on VHS. Maybe the DVD release schedule is different.

TBH, if I can't find a decent copy on DVD I will get a pirate digital one for DD to watch. But then, I only buy DVDs for the special features anyway.

Don't know if this helps finding anything though. Disney Classic movie list

They are on a charitable mission to keep the Hong Kong-based Ebay sellers of high quality fakes 'genuine' DVDs in business? I mean really - when your three-year-old is obsessed with Ariel, fuelled by Disneyland rides and Disney shops full of Little Mermaid merchandise, who is going to say, 'yes darling, if you wait until you are ten you can see what the Ariel story is all about....'?
