It's utterly dreadful, isn't it? Lovely look, clothes, but the heavy underlining/explanatory mode of the ending says it all that the narrative didn't hold together so the thicko audience have to be TOLD what went on.

It wasn't just me; the utter silence of the cinema audience I was in said it all. gobsmacked disbelief at such a travesty of film from a director who has been so good in the past.

Oh, and too many big names as actors did not help.

Got to disagree - I thought it was great. The lake scence was amazing in an awful, brutal way. I loved the book and didn't really love what they did with the ending to the film but I really enjoyed it.

DH and I have seen some awful films recently and this is the first one we have both liked for ages.

Was wondering what this was like, not a fan of DiCaprio tho, although do like Michelle Williams, so may take myself off to see it.

I have read the book, so know the plot.

I went to see this last night- I thought it was brill. If you have read the book it might spoil it I suppose, I certainly didn't get the twist! I usually don't like DiCaprio, but he seems to be improving as he gets older. I think it is supposed to have an over the top, B movie feel to it, loads of gothic effects and it had me on the edge of my seat. It reminded me of the Shining, especially the music which really added to the overall effect. It has had mixed reviews but I would recommend it, my DH also enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed it because it kept my brain going. But somehow I agree that it just didn't hang together and the end was just not really believable. The biggest weakness is DiCaprio - I love him in certain things as he has got older but this role needed real depth of pain and emotion and somehow I just didn't get that from him. For all that it is v striking and interesting.

I enjoyed it too. Not a film you could watch pissed or tired though, you need to have your wits about you.

I loved it.
