Loved the book. Just saw the film on DVD...

Why why why did they change the end?

what was the end in the book?

BrigitBigKnickers · 29/01/2010 00:08

Hide this thread if you are reading the book and don't want to know the end spoiler imminant!

Anna was killed in a car accident and ended up being the donor for her Kate (the one with leukemia) who was subsequently cured. Such a brilliant twist in the original story...

Why did they change it?

they changed it! to what? i've only read the book, not seen the film

GypsyMoth · 29/01/2010 09:51

that would have been a good ending too...

they change things for reasons known only to themselves.

enjoyed the film though....we all did. dd wants the book,so will have a read

msrisotto · 29/01/2010 09:53

I've read the book but not seen the film, did they make it a happy ending? If so, it's 'cos americans (apparently) demand happy endings!!

BrigitBigKnickers · 29/01/2010 10:19

Neither the book or the film has a happy ending.

can someone please tell me the ending of the film! i keep missing the discussion!

mumonthenet · 29/01/2010 14:11

the end of the film is that Kate (elder sister) dies...as she knew she was going anyway, and there is a kind of epilogue a few years later where they are all "healed" and peaceful again.

I had forgotten that the book had a different ending.

GoddessInTheKitchen · 29/01/2010 14:47

kate dies!!! omfg why would they change an absolutely brilliant twist of an ending?

mumonthenet · 29/01/2010 15:01

gawd knows.....

but since I had totally forgotten the end of the book (was years ago I read it) I was quite satisfied with the film....

I was talking with someone else today about it who said she reckoned the car accident to the younger sister was just a little too convenient to be believable!!

Remotew · 29/01/2010 15:06

I haven't read the book so wasn't aware of the different endings. I watched the film on a plane and was in tears most of the way through. I found it really moving albeit depressing. Too sad for comfort.

GoddessInTheKitchen · 29/01/2010 17:33

lmao at anna dying being 'convenient'

i know what she means but i was still when i happened

GoddessInTheKitchen · 29/01/2010 17:35
