Up warning - scary dogs!

Just thought I'd warn anyone thinking of taking their kids to see Up that there is a scary group of dogs which are the 'baddies' in it.

I took my 6 and 3 yr old today - choosing a U film and not knowing about the dogs - and my poor 3yr old was pretty scared during bits of it.

On the Up side (no pun intended), it was quite a nice film and great not to have to watch disney schmaltz.

If you have particularly sensitive children it's always worth checking out the detailed write-ups at the BBFC's parents' site which explains why they've given films the certificate they have and any areas of concern.

It is a PG isn't it?
Always worth looking on that imdb site for parent guidance when taking youngsters to see a PG film.
(I'm amazed what passes the certification on some of the 'U's too though).

No, it's definitely a U. I would probably have rated it PG myself, I think.

i took dd today, she's 3.5. i kind of warned her there were some mean dogs in it having read reviews of the film. she was fine though. delighted in fact. found the chief dog's voice very funny.

Professor, ooo you're right - I was looking on that imdb site and it is PG on that (It's PG in the States and some other countries.

Do you think it is suitable for a nearly 3 year old? I'm thinking of taking my 5 year old dd and wondered whether I should take her brother as well.

there didnt appear to be any crying children today in the cinema. i think the silly voice helped in the Doberman

that's a good site - thanks for the link. i've just written to complain about the review though - my 5 year old was gutted by the miscarriage and death scenes as well as something else later on that reminded him of it - I wouldn't recommed it for the 'deep thinking' young child

Didn't find the dogs scary but I sobbed and sobbed. It's one of the best films I have ever seen but it did make me cry....

I don't even LIKE squirrels....

I took my nearly 4 year old to see this, and it never ever crossed my mind to think that the dogs may be frightening, they were funny!

She thought the digs where great.

Film is wonderful and I also sobbed.

Its a Disney film people!! surely Bambi and the such like where more traumatic than some barking dogs

Hey, I know a joke! A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, "I forgot to store acorns for the winter and now I am dead." Ha! It is funny because the squirrel gets dead.

What children find scary can be so unpredictable though.

DS (4.9) loved UP, but a few months ago I had to leave Ice Age 3 with him screaming & shaking in terror at the scene where the dinosaur is chasing the main characters. He was completely fine until he just started screaming.

I also had to leave Madagascar 2 when he had a similar reaction in a scene where the main character fights a bigger lion.

God - so agree with lilymolly - it's a cartoon FFS. Some kids are gonna grow up such wusses!
