What films do your 8 and 9 year olds like?

We live outside the UK so I feel a bit out of it in terms of current films. I want to buy a couple of new DVDs for DD1 who is 8 (9 in July). She likes Harry Potter, The Golden Compass, HSM... What can you recommend?

If you wanna go old school, I'd recommend Labyrinth. It's a classic, DD (3) loves it, but perhaps it's a bit passe for the 8-9 set.

How recent do you want them to be?

They don't have to be recent although we have a 'DVD night' on Fridays and have rented quite a few (though they take longer to come out here and it's not that great a rental shop, so I think we are behind the UK). We have The Incredibles and we've rented Nanny McPhee. She enjoyed them both though so you are on the right lines. I have just looked at Enchanted and that looks great, thanks.

We drive back from southern Spain to Scotland every summer, so I am looking to stock up on some new DVDs for the car before then.

my dd aged 9 recently loved a film called "wildchild" very jolly hockeystick story of out of cotrol american girl sent to an english boarding school and comes good,

also mad about the narnia movies

we have just seen "return to moonacre" at the kids cinema club and my 7yo loved it so that should be ok too.

also silly stuff like space chimps, bolt, igor, nightmare before christmas etc
