Went to see this last night. Excellent, a bit gory in places but surprisingly touching and the little girl who plays the vampire is amazing.

Highly recommended.

Oh I really fancy this film!! Would have to go into Manchester to see it I should think but it does look very good indeed. Glad you liked it!

Saw it last week. Truly excellent! The young actors were superb.

can't wait to see it!

Is it very gorey or frightening? I know it's a 15, but was thinking dd would like to see it - she loves the twilight books and film. The reviews for this film are excellent but how scary is it?

Springfleurs · 17/04/2009 10:42

How old is your dd?

I love Twilight as well but I think this is very different. If she is sensitive at all I would say no. The 15 certificate is deserved imho.

Really great film though.

I saw it yesterday and LOVED it.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!

Did anyone get that Eli is a castrated boy? That totally passed me by, although I did wonder at the beginning if she was a boy as her voice was so androgenous (apparently her voice was dubbed!).

And although I my original reaction to the ending was happy, I have been worrying (well a tiny bit ) that she may have been "grooming" Oskar to be her new carer.

What does everyone think about Hakan? I'm a bit puzzled about their relationship. Was it meant to be creepy? I didn't really feel that way about it, but it didn't seem like a "normal" loving father/daughter relationship.

finally saw it last night. fantastic. the kids were wonderful. there was a really moving moment when oskar sniffs his dad's cardigan. it was full of lovely little moments that helped to round out the characters.

wow, madamant, had missed the bit that shows that eli is a castrated boy. just watched it again, and you're right! now i'm going to have to watch the whole film again! i thought she had meant she was a vampire when she said, "i'm not a girl".

i thought that hakan was a grown up version of oskar; someone who had fallen in love with eli as a child and tried to protect her/him as he grew older. i think she just calls him dad because of the age difference. their last embrace when he says her name sounds more like he is in love with eli. it kind of foreshadows what oskar can expect from their relationship too.
