This is a much better film than the critics seem to think.

There's real wit in the script and the acting is superb.

The dancing is bizarre, exactly as it was in another film which I don't remember the name of. I wonder if it's historically accurate or just a fad.

Oh my goodness isn't Samantha Morten's girl just like her, and as good as, her mother!

Fiona Shaw was rather fab - gave a more nuanced performance than first appearance would have one expect. I don’t like seeing George McKay in this type of thing - he should play his character in Rose of Nevada forever. But he was fine. As was DEJ.

And if anyone calls the nepo-daughter a nepo-daughter I will fight them. She was outstanding.

Esmé is a wonderful actress, nepo baby or not. I love her mother's acting as well, it's great to see that talent passed on.

I think it looks great, though not seen it yet. I hadn't actually heard about it until I read a couple of negative reviews and the criticisms make it sound very like my sort of thing. Apparently it's very traditional and could have been made in the 90s; it has absolutely no self indulgent modernisations trying to make it 'more accessible', no gratuitous sex or violence, and is nothing at all like recent period dramas such as Wuthering Heights or Persuasion. So I am very much looking forward to watching it!

You don't even see the duel, just the reactions of the women to it.

In retrospect I actually think it's a bit of an understated masterpiece. It's ALL in the acting.

For the dog lovers there's a MAGNIFICENT harlequin great dane!

You can't love Alan Rickman and any more than me (Truly Madly Deeply, anyone?) but this guy is spot on, very believable with smoking intensity.

Very pleased to hear it. Though will have to be incredibly well acted if I can be expected to work out the story without seeing any of the main characters masturbating, or Marianne and Willoughby humping in a field, or the Middletons at it hammer and tongs BDSM style... Especially if the characters don't even turn to camera to explain what's happening as they go along... I do hope I don't get too muddled!

That is such a relief to hear. I am growing quite tired of 're-imagining' films.

It looks incredible but I am also worried because I love the 90s film so much. I have tried various versions of P and P and nope, if it isn’t Colin Firth, it’s not happening.

I love Fiona Shaw though! I am assuming she is playing Fanny? she is similar to the divine Harriet Walter in many ways.

Fairly sure they re-imagined some of the highly suggestive dancing.

Those sections had something of ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ about them …

All that arm entwining? And contorting of upper body and neck as if in the throes of passion? It made Strictly’s Argentinian tangos seem positively tame!
