Did anyone actually enjoy the Wicked movies?

Watched them both for the first time this week and I was very underwhelmed. I saw it in theatre in London a few years ago and loved it but I was so disappointed in the movies. I think they completely cast Glinda wrong, the movie was boring and just odd, the singing wasn’t as good as I was expecting and I was just really disappointed. I know I’m way behind in seeing them so may have missed posts about it during the release but did anyone actually like them?

Yes I wanted to turn the first one off but gave it a chance, think I enjoyed the last half an hour which made me really look forward to watching the second and I was even more disappointed than the first

I love Wicked and have seen the stage show multiple times in the UK and US. My older DD loves it too and has seen the stage show a couple of times too.

We enjoyed the first film as it was very similar to the staged version. It was too long of a wait for the second film and it didn’t hold our attention. I also think it was a mistake to make it into 2 parts, harder editing decisions need to have been made to make it into a single film.

I liked the first film (I like the theatre musical and watched it twice). Then watched the second film and was like "how the fuck did they get it so wrong?".
No idea what happened but they ruined it. Stick with the theatre version. The plot is a mess but it's good.

Not that keen on Ariana in either, really.

I went to see the first one with an open mind but didn’t like it. Not only was it rather boring, the whole Ariana/ Cynthia love-in on the press junket was nauseating.

In the context of the movie is it not obviously completely tongue-in-cheek and meant to show that Glinda, and by extension most of her schoolmates have made the mistake of equating popularity with goodness?

Like, that’s one of the core themes of the production!

I enjoyed the first one. I enjoyed seeing two very talented performers really enjoying themselves.

yes glinda was poorly cast her skeletal appearance was distracting, the songs and choreography was equally poor compared to vintage movies.
zero recommendations from me.

Agree. We went home before the end of number one and obviously didn't go back for number two. Slow and boring, no real magic feeling.

Agree LOVED wizard of oz, I heard they want to remake that. Not sure it can beat that one though I fear they’ll ruin it with all the AI and everything people are ‘offended’ by these days. Not sure it’s the skeletal appearance that bothered me but more the skin tone against the hair I don’t think she suits blonde, glinda didn’t feel as glamorous as she should have been

I really enjoyed both films. Never watched the show or read the books. I knew it was connected to WOO but didn't know the story. I think they're the kind of film I'll re-watch.

Watched them both in the cinema when they first came out. With my daughter her friend and friends mother.

Painful, I thought both of movies dragged the arse out of the storyline...

Thought they were crap.
