I was fine until the Donna character said "Why can't they just see that he has got a broken herat?" I was in bits, my DH was really surprised to look over and suddenly see me in floods of tears but it really got to me, the poor man, trying not to remember his family for survival, and everyone forcing him to. That court scene was brutal. Anyone know what the bloody hell I am going on about?

Adam Sandler plays a 9/11 widower who loses his wife and three daughters (and dog) to the hijackers on the plane from Boston. It's a slow starter but Sandler is superb, and it really builds. Makes you think how selfish and complacent we are with what we have, or it did to me. And forces you to acknowledge how people might cope with something like that differently but that doesn't make it wrong. His coping mechanism is never to think of them at all, to drown out his memories and thoughts with his headphones and drums etc....and his PIL for eg just don't get it and go on and on and on trying to get him to talk to them and about it. They label him as mad but actually they are just being incredibly selfish in their own grief I guess.....as he points out at the end, they have each other, he has no-one left at all......

and....I think the film was generous in the friends they portrayed him as having who WERE looking out for him - I can imagine in this shit world that actually, 7 years on, most people would have given up on him as he had withdrawn to such an extent, but the film cited his landlady and some friends who did actually still give a shit about his welfare. I hope the real world is as kind.

oh gosh it sounds like a good film. I have never seen any films about 9/11 as I am too scared regarding how I will handle it. I took it very hard at the time and still do. But I care about it very deeply so in that sense would like to see some films.
