AIBU to cancel our entire Sky package? The price is a joke.

Just sat down to look at our monthly budget and our TV/broadband bill is making me feel sick (over €110/£100 a month!).
My husband insists he needs his sports channels, and the kids want their movies, but I'm putting my foot down. I was chatting to a mum at the school gates and she said they completely ditched Sky and use a "private server" on their Firestick for a fraction of the price, and it has literally everything.
AIBU to just cancel Sky and force my husband to figure out this private streaming thing? Has anyone else here done this? Is it reliable?

Cycling is on TNT sports which although is part of HBO is not on the same bit as the HBO Max series and films, you have to pay separately, usually at least about £20-30 for TNT sports. Cycling used to be on ITV and Eurosport so was free or low cost. DH is going to have to fork out for TNT because of this, it's certainly not on the free HBO max.

Tell hubby to VPN to Australia and watch via SBS. It doesn’t have everything but better than nothing. Similarly there is the Dutch language Belgian broadcaster, VRT, who offers a lot of the races, in Dutch but again free. Do not pay for TNT just for cycling!

They are clamping down on the illegal firesticks so I wouldn't get one of those. (I wouldn't personally anyway as don't want to break the law).

I have Sky tv and movies and it costs £54 a month. I have broadband/phone elsewhere and that costs £43 a month. We also have Netflix, Amazon. (Disney is now included in Sky).

The kids don't get to dictate what you have because they are not paying for it.

You and DH need to reach a compromise. If he is working and paying for it as well, then keep Sky Sports. Ditch the movies. Sign up to different packages periodically so the kids can watch films on something else. So Amazon for a while, then Netflix etc. Presumably you get Disney+ now with your sky subscription, so they have access to films on there.

I think this question has been asked already, but haven't seen an answer, but can you get a set top box which records?

Freeview plus or Freely recorder. We have an ancient Humax but there are still a few brands available. Or you may be able to plug a portable disk drive into your TV and use that to record.
