I have looked for a thread and don’t see one.

Actually very glad I didn’t let a few mildly dismissive reviews put me off, because it was exactly the film I needed this afternoon. Quiet, unshowy, slow but well paced. Claire Foy wondrously natural, Denise Gough a delight. I would have liked to see more of an anonymous jogger, but other than that I wouldn’t want it to be any different to what it was.

H is for Hawk review – Claire Foy is tremendously authentic in eccentric grief drama

Foy convinces as a grieving academic who trains a goshawk in this film based on Helen Macdonald’s bestselling nature memoir

Yes I agree! Saw it earlier this week with a friend, and it was just the gentle film we needed

I really want to see this, but it only seems to be showing in the mornings and early afternoons, which I just can’t do, even on weekends. Gutted, I adored the book.

I saw it at the London Film Festival and enjoyed it. Had not read the book.

Eucatastrophilia · 07/02/2026 16:27

I doubt I’ll ever read the book. T. H White’s Goshawk seems quite enough for one lifetime!

i enjoyed its slowness too.

I feel like it’s very similar to the book “Raising Hare”

carbonelthecat · 07/02/2026 18:07

I loved the book and really liked the film as well. The footage of the goshawk was wonderful, and Claire Foy and Brendan Gleeson were both excellent.

Enjoyed it….

Saw it earlier this afternoon. I would have preferred it to have been a little more emotional, but otherwise I enjoyed it and Claire Foy was superb (as usual).

I saw it this afternoon as well. Glad I went alone as found some parts profoundly sad - got quite tearful. I think it showed, beautifully, that heavy weight of grief.
