28 Years Later: The Bone Temple * [Beware - Spoilers from page 3]

I'll admit to going in with a very heavy heart because I was so disappointed by the last one (and I've still only seen it once - I had no inclination at all to even stream it as a catch up before I went out to see this).

While I'm not going to include anything even remotely spoilery, The Bone Temple is the polar opposite; thoughtful, intelligent and interesting and a lot of fun! I love Jack O'Connell a little bit more every time I see him, it looks stunning, there is plenty of carnage and it feels like a genuine, natural evolution of the events of the first film. Ralph Fiennes acts everybody else off the screen 😀

The infected - bar Samson - aren't actually in it that much, and it's the better film for it, I think. And there's Iron Maiden 👍

I'm really looking forward to it! But I didn't dislike the 1st one tbh. I did find parts of it, especially the ending very odd, but I didn't get the outright hate for it!

I really enjoyed it and am glad I watched it! That last line was fantastic.

I hate horror movies but the original 28 days later is one of my favourite movies I even enjoy the second one 28 weeks later.
Was a bit bemused by the last one so might wait to stream this one I hear good things though on the performances

I didn't hate 28 Years Later but I found it really uninvolving; I think I'd probably just built it up in my head too much after seeing the trailer tbh.

I didn't like or care about any of the characters which certainly didn't help, and unfortunately (for reasons nothing to do with the film) that North East accent is like nails down a blackboard for me so I spent a lot of it wanting to put my hands over my ears.

The ending of 28YL is a set up for The Bone Temple; and it was one of the few parts I liked about it. There is gore in TBT, but it's fairly sparse (a lot is off screen) and I can't wait to see it again

Saw it last night and loved it! Yes there are gory bits, but not that often. But I now have so many questions, yes Ralph Fiennes is great, barmy but in a kind gentle way, I could totally see him as a GP in a country practice. And I forgot how young Spike is too, for some reason in my head he would be older, but its back to back with the first 28 years later, so of course he wouldn't be.

I think I'll probably go and see it again, I've got an unlimited card so it wont cost me anything.

It's definitely gory, but the most explicit violence is zombie-related and "over-the-top".

More relevant is it's more brutal than the first one, hence the rating upgrade from 15 to 18 - e.g. knife stabbings with an emphasis on cruelty and sadism (characters enjoying making others suffer, gruesome injuries etc.)

It's shot in a very straightforward and realistic style, so harder to watch than the stylish action scenes and Mortal Kombat kills in Years.

If you know you're squeamish, and even just think it might be too much to handle, I'd probably skip it - I saw it at a double bill with experienced fans and even that had audible reactions.

Big fan of this series, want to see it asap

Just watched this - fantastic. So much better than the last one. It made me jump several times and there is a lot of gore/violence, but it is so exhilarating.
Both Ralph Fiennes and Jack O'Connell are great.

Just seen it. Much better than part 1 (or whatever it is - number 3?).

Is quite gory but more at the start - not relentless throughout.

People seem to be crashing around noisily in dense forests when it suits the plot and not attracting zombies though which is a bit of a plot hole irritant but I got over it.

We walked out of bone temple after the long flaying section. Bored.

Really enjoyed it. Thought it was better than the first 28 years later but I still enjoyed the first one.

There are things I want to discuss so will wait a few days so as not to post spoilers.

Also still not really convinced by the whole Jimmy Saville thing. It’s not a cultural reference that travels well outside of the UK. American audiences must wonder what the fuck it’s all about?!

Despite that though, there were parts that were incredibly funny.

I watched it yesterday and it thought it was the best one.

I think the JS reference was powerful in 28 years showcasing a cut off world, his crimes would have never come to light, kife stopped in 2002

Loved it. Was very different to its predecessors but a nice change from all the rabid zombie chases scenes (although there were still a few to keep you going). I had to look away at a couple of points as was too gory for me but it wasn’t overdone thankfully. Jack O’Connell was just brilliant…what a believable nutter…and Fiennes was excellent as usual. I think they have left the ending open for another instalment if they wanted to (and I for one would go and see it).

There is another film to come @Greybutdontwanttodye with Danny Boyle back directing. 28 years was always planned to be a trilogy.

Family member saw someone faint during the film! It's kind of put me off going - I'm quite squeamish but felt OK during the first film and the original one.

I hate gore & had my hands over my face several times. But I still think it's one of the best films I've ever seen. I saw it last night and I'm still thinking about it.

In my opinion, 28 Years Later is a film you need to watch twice. The first time I saw it, I went in with very high expectations and came away disappointed by how slow it felt and how different it was from the first two films. However, once Spike took his mum to see Dr Kelson, it really picked up for me, and I genuinely enjoyed the ending.

On a second watch, knowing what kind of film it was trying to be, I really appreciated it much more.

I'll take your word for it @Catisheavyonmylap but given the level of irritation the characters caused me, once was plenty (the child being a pretty minor player in Bone Temple was one of the best things about it for me) 😁

There's a lightweight but still quite interesting article about female horror fans and the 28 Days franchise here.

I once ran out of a film with a sudden stomach upset following some dicey noodles in Chinatown (and only just made it to the ladies 😱). I was also at a festival screening once where somebody had a seizure - I think it was possibly during The Substance 🤔

Any onlooker might have thought it was because of whatever was on the screen, but in both cases it was nothing to do with it. If you want to see it I wouldn't let that put you off.

My neighbour chucked up in the aisle watching the second Blair Witch Project at a 4DX screening.

I would have viewed that as an entirely correct and appropriate reaction to having paid 4DX prices to see such an atrocious film 😖

I'm going to see Bone Temple again tomorrow at a Vue I'm passing by in the afternoon, where it's apparently on the 'Epic' screen. I'm hoping nobody else is in so I can get up and dance about a bit 😀

I really enjoyed the last one but honestly thought Bone Temple was PHENOMENAL. Beautifully, moving, funny, horrifying, gruesome, brutal. O'Connell was brilliant but omg Fienes just killed me. That scene to Iron Maiden will be hard to beat. I will be thinking about that film for weeks.
