My local cinema seems to be making money out showing classic films. So even though I have seen them millions of times, I went to see

The Sound of Music
The Princess Bride

Absolute classics! I need to watch Princess Bride again I haven’t seen it in such a long time! My cinema has been doing throwbacks too, loved seeing The Matrix on the big screen as never had the chance the first time around ☺️

I loved The Ballad of Wallis Island. Absolutely gorgeous, if you haven't seen it I would very much recommend.

Hohofortherobbers · 12/01/2026 11:18

Nuremberg

Mumteedum · 12/01/2026 21:01

Not necessarily 2025 made films but I saw and loved ..

The worst person in the world.

The Substance

The Slits documentary

Mumteedum · 12/01/2026 21:05

Agree with this - it was a surprising hit for me.

My top 5 (in the order I saw them, not which I liked best!)

We Live In Time
A Complete Unknown
The Penguin Lessons
The Ballad of Wallis Island
The Choral

ladygindiva · 12/01/2026 21:30

I can't believe it took me until Christmas 2025 to watch a Muppet Christmas carol. It's totally outstanding and now in my all time top ten 🤣

TheClocksFast · 12/01/2026 21:30

I watched Blue Velvet the other night. Oh my god lols. I thought it was a nice film about horses.

Phantom Thread was amazing.

My other favourites were Compartment No 6 (foreign) and also Harold and Maude.

I’ve just watched Dragonfly. Amazing.

Oh, and The Substance (mentioned above) and Sweat were really good.

Mumteedum · 12/01/2026 21:34

I still haven't seen Phantom Thread

I loved this too, and I Swear.

Divebar2021 · 12/01/2026 21:47

Can I remember them all…

The ballad of Wallis Island - so gorgeous and uplifting
Bring them Down - absolutely gritty & traumatising
One battle after another - Leonado in his shabby best
Pillion - ummm Alexander in his altogether 😂
Hot Milk - Fiona Shaw… say no more.

Borka · 12/01/2026 21:48

None of mine are recent releases:

The Holdovers
Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973 version)
The Italian Job (1969 version)
Pecker
9 to 5

patooties · 12/01/2026 22:15

Wallis Island
marching band
blue moon
Phantom thread was bizarre (at the end!)
I love the Scandy one out now - love it -
and Santosh - which I didn’t think I’d love but was lovely to look at.

I was going to say The Holdovers, I really enjoyed that one. Liked the soundtrack too. It had a feel of Dead Piers society but not as sad.
Also watched the film about Eddie the Eagle and enjoyed that, though I didn't expect to.

Pianoaholic · 12/01/2026 22:40

Sorry that should say Dead poets society!

Oblomov26 · 19/01/2026 08:11

Nuremberg.
