Is like something straight out of the early 00s, was there a woman anywhere near the script of this? Utterly abysmal. I can’t believe how many awful female tropes this film had. Not a chance in hell it passes the Bechdel test. That’s before you even start critiquing the realism of the sport which I was willing to forgive in the name of Hollywood, but the female characters should have the creators hanging their heads in shame. I’d love to know what Susie Wolff thought of it, considering her husband was a producer also.

Agreed! I was really disappointed as an F1 fan

I’m amazed just how unrealistic it was given how much access they had, I know they’re making a film but considering we have some pretty good motorsport films out there my hopes were relatively high!

I’m sure there was a huge thread on here when it came out filled with the same outrage. It drove me BONKERS.

Why did the female lead need to have a backstory involving a disapproving husband? Why did she need a romantic backstory at all? None of the men seemed to need a woman in their past to give context to their character, but without an ex-husband a female engineer is…inexplicable!?!?

Oh I wish I hadn’t started 🤣

I did try to search for one in the film section but couldn’t find it, I was hoping there would be one as I appreciate I’m late to the party! I’m relieved others have discussed it because I’d only heard positive things in passing.

Indeed! The way he (a 30+ year retired driver) was telling her the technical expert what the car needed. And that meek female pit lane crew bumbling around! The whole thing is cringe.

Oh yeah the one shite crew member being female was the real icing on the cake of rage

hmdxm1 · 03/01/2026 23:37

Pleased to see on googling that Susie Wolff has publicly said parts of the film made her cringe.
