I really enjoyed it but for the life of me I can’t work out why! 🤣

GinandGingerBeer · 04/11/2025 19:18

Haha I enjoyed it. I thought Emma stone was fantastic in it. But I did come out feeling a bit ‘wtaf did I just watch?!’

Perfidia · 04/11/2025 19:45

I saw it this afternoon. My benchmark for ‘unwatchable’ this year is Weapons - so I was busily comparing the two during the first forty five minutes or so. Although the thought of escaping the auditorium did cross my mind briefly, the three actors were so compelling I felt obliged to stay even though I was not enjoying it. And then it became absorbing. And then of course, the moment I began to feel it might be possible to get to the end without wanting to throw up - it turned into a bloody mess. So I couldn’t suspend disbelief any more.

I guessed the end - but can’t work out if it was supposed to be ridiculous. Which means the epilogue felt totally unearned.

I just don’t know … My username comes from one of the two best films I’ve seen this year (One Battle / Sinners). They’ve set a high bar - but it’s still disappointing when I don’t leave the cinema feeling as thrilled and elated as I did after those.

I take my hat off to Emma Stone who isn’t afraid to do something off the wall and off beat.

Sturmundcalm · 07/11/2025 22:34

I was disappointed and bored and mystified by it… love Emma stone and liked poor things but this was just wtf?!?

rookiemere · 08/11/2025 08:05

Friend and I left before the end - were very bored although I thought the concept was interesting. What did happen in the end please?

Perfidia · 08/11/2025 08:44

Hmm … I’m not sure that information would be welcome on this thread at this stage, @rookiemere. I didn’t specify whether it should be spoiler free or not, but some people might come here before seeing the film. And it’s only just out.

I’ve been back to see it again, just to make sure and I actually loved it. The ending is bonkers, but quite poetic I thought and you could see her regret at the final thing she did. Thought provoking in many ways, sometimes shocking and sometimes hilarious but it’s definitely not boring and keeps you guessing right to the end. I loved the characters and the acting was brilliant. It’s certainly not going to be to everyone’s taste though!

rookiemere · 08/11/2025 14:47

Good point @PerfidiaI suppose if we were that bothered we would have stayed until the end Grin

IsThisLifeNow · 14/11/2025 09:29

loved it, I did guess the twist, but only in a 'wouldnt it be mad if XYZ' though and only right before it happened.

I'm just back from having watched this. I enjoyed it, except for the colossal spoiler within 15 minutes of the film's beginning. Anyone who knows "Men in Black" would spot it straight away.

Still the acting was top notch and the OTT score a signal the film was, on a certain level, not to be taken seriously in some matters.

Perfidia · 05/12/2025 08:00

So now I’ll have to watch Men In Black for the first time ever?

🧐

😄

I watched this last night and was really enjoying it, but it really should have ended with the closet door closing (I don't think that is a spoiler). Everything after that felt unnecessary to me and spoiled it.
