Highly recommend this new heartwarming but hard hitting film which is based on real life. You will laugh and you will also cry.
John Davidson developed Tourettes in his early teens while living in the Scottish Borders. This film covers 40 years of his life.
Stellar cast and great soundtrack.

Watching it again as dh hasn't seen it. I've cried again already.

beasmithwentworth · 11/02/2026 19:17

I went to see this as it came out and was in low level tears through pretty much all of it. What a brilliant film. Unfortunately I really fancied the dickhead Dad (in looks only of course)

iamme21 · 11/02/2026 19:31

It’s available to rent or buy on Amazon prime, I’m going to do that at the weekend

YumYa · 11/02/2026 19:50

Yes we've rented it on Amazon prime.

Dad had a look of Gerard Butler.

I’m looking forward to seeing this, as it DD17 who has had TS since she was small, diagnosed about 5 years ago, she’s on drugs to help control them but really interested to watch it, slightly worried, but thing we, as a family, and her as a person with TS have come to terms with how to deal with the tic attacks (literally looks like she’s possessed when really bad, whole body tics, eyes rolling back in her head, it’s frightening as you can’t stop it, it just needs to come out). May watch this weekend if on Prime rentals now

Madthings · 11/02/2026 20:24

I saw this when I came out, my youngest has tourettes plus other diagnosis as its often comorbid.

Its a brilliant film, made me cry but its good to see the increased awareness.

I will be buying it on prime to rewatch and also for my teenagers to watch at home. My child who has tourettes is too young to watch it, but in a few years he will Thoroughly recomende it.

KylieKangaroo · 22/02/2026 21:48

Just seen that he won 2 Bafta's for this film, so well deserved!

Fantastic news 👏

rookiemere · 23/02/2026 07:08

Such great news about the Bafta win, I have seen Marty Supreme and Timothy Chamalets (sp?) performance isn’t in the same league at all. Great to see it finally recognised at the awards.

BigBrownBoogyingBear · 23/02/2026 09:35

We watched this as a family a couple of months ago (me, DH, DS16 and DS13) and we all loved it. Robert Aramayo was amazing!

TemuTrinny · 23/02/2026 09:38

Totally brilliant film and performances all round. Well deserved BAFTAs.

the80sweregreat · 23/02/2026 21:14

A fantastic film and I do remember the documentary that was made in the 80s. I can remember watching it thinking ‘ this teenager isn’t for real ‘ , but shows me now that I was as misinformed as the ones around him were at the time. No internet for any references for example.
I don’t understand why the documentary he made wasn’t mentioned in the film until the very end.
He has had such a hard life , I hope that the advances in medicine can help people with this awful condition.
The actor playing John really did deserve his award.
Some good acting all round. It’s so sad his life was ruined , but it’s good that he was able to turn it something positive by educating people about the condition.

berlinbaby2025 · 24/02/2026 20:00

Haven’t seen it yet but do want to.

Just thought it would be helpful to mention that it’s coming to Netflix on March 10th.

Well1mBack · 24/02/2026 20:04

I'm really looking forward to watching it, I wanted to see it when it was in the cinema but unfortunately didn't get the chance since I need to watch films with subtitles due to my deafness.

So pleased to hear the actor won the bafta, I've been impressed with everything he's been in: rings of power, game of thrones and that creepy netflix thriller I forget the name of now, under the skin maybe? I watched it ages ago and he stole the show.

the80sweregreat · 24/02/2026 20:21

The Netflix programme he was in was called ‘ Behind her eyes’ . I don’t remember him in it at all, but it was on a few years ago.

71Alex · 25/02/2026 15:58

Just watched it, what a brilliant and heart breaking film.

I hope it raises awareness of TS. I found it interesting how I got used to his tics as the film went on.

Arran2024 · 05/03/2026 21:38

Saw it yesterday. Amazing film. Loved it - apart from Maxine Peak's bizarre accent, which varied massively across the film. The main actor isn't Scottish - he is from Hull - and he managed a realistic accent. So I don't know what was going on with Maxine Peak.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/03/2026 12:06

saw this on Netflix.
just a brilliant watch

The young lad sat next to me was having tics as he watched it and he cried but also laughed a lot.

💛

Papercompany · 17/03/2026 00:38

Just watched this on Netflix - excellent...a really good film that will stay with me for a long time.

KeeleyJ · 17/03/2026 00:47

I watched it on Netflix the other day.

Something I don't think comes across in the film, as they used a city backdrop, is Galashiels is a really small town. One High School, one main (now deserted) shopping street etc.

Literally everyone in the town knows John or knows of him. In the earlier years when he was a teenager, people would literally cross the street to avoid him thinking he was a violent delinquent teenager. He's had such a tough life 😟

ozarina · 17/03/2026 11:01

I laughed and cried. If you're not familiar with him check out the earlier videos of him and his friends. We regularly shout " oil on the road" 😂
