Sci fi fans can you help me identify this movie?

I’ve probably seen every sci fi movie there is (but please drop your favourites or recommendations here)

However, I can’t remember a movie where there is some kind of invasion, there is a tidal wave coming and the heroes escape whilst the locals stay.

It’s an English/US movie (not Geostorm or Deep Impact) it’s been bothering me for a couple of years.

as for suggestions, I saw a 2012 film the other day called Battleship which completely escaped me - it was actually pretty good, not exactly Armageddon or the original Independence Day league but still not bad.
