Did anyone see the latest Wes Anderson's movie? I enjoyed it more than his previous two ('The French Dispatch' and 'Asteroid City'), I thought pacing was better, probably because he focused on one, key storyline, but it's far from the heights of 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'.

I also thought that Benedict Cumberbatch's make-up and hair styling was ridiculous and looking very cheap.

Yet to see it, will let you know when I do.

It's crap

I agree with @mrandmrsrobinson - it’s crap (although I did fall asleep, which was nice).

I enjoyed Asteroid City though he’s been on a bit of a downward trend since The Grand Budapest Hotel!,

I went to see this last night, honestly a bit non plussed about it, although I did enjoy it more than Asteroid City as it least it had some semblance of a plot and the performances were generally good.
I didn’t like the Benedict Cumberbatch bit, felt like it descended into silliness, or I guess more silliness than the rest of the movie.

Saw it last night - it's a no from me! Both DH and I nodded off a bit.
Some great actors in it and there were some amusing bits, but it wasn't enough plot for me and I dgaf about the plot that was apparant.

I am looking forward to that new Stephen king and the Roses one with CucumberPatch looks right up my street so at least some decent films coming up.

Is Richard Ayoade in it much? He's the only reason I'm interested in it tbh.

I agree too. Tedious, self reverential 'Me So Quirky!' rubbish, although it wasn't my choice so I tried to nap through what I could.

There wasn't a lot of laughter or atmosphere in the screening full stop considering it was a Friday night. I sat and thought about the 28 Years Later ticket I've just booked for next month instead Grin

Not that much but he was definitely the best part of the film for me.

I didn’t enjoy the film much overall. Seemed to be trying to prove how clever the director was.

Me too, fell asleep. Too cartoony and disjointed to work. Spot the stars in small roles cast was quite fun. Was that Ian Holm as the lift boy?

But doesn't Mia Threapleton sound like her mum!
.

Imdunfer · 02/06/2025 18:14

Won't be Ian Holm, he's dead!

I enjoyed the French Dispatch and Asteroid City more, felt the scenery and costumes were wonderful though. Very Wes Anderson.
