My boys are wanting to see the new minecraft movie. I’ve always tried to sway them away from minecraft as from what i’ve seen it’s violent (swords etc) but their friends keep taking about it and they really want to see it. It’s a PG and my boys are only young (4&5) If I let them see it will they stop saying chicken jockey?

No, they’ll say it more.

Needmorelego · 19/04/2025 22:56

Most of it will go over their heads if they don't know much about Minecraft.
It's a PG but really it's aimed at teens/20 somethings.
I wouldn't take them that young.

unlikelychump · 19/04/2025 22:56

I saw it yesterday and thought it was both violent and demonstrably awful. Too violent for my 9yo although there were plenty younger than him there.

JanieMay86 · 19/04/2025 22:56

I wouldn’t say the violence is detrimental however I do believe even if it’s a PG, it may not be appropriate for them x

In some countries it's apparently a 12 Certificate (or similar equivalent).

CircuitMaze · 19/04/2025 22:57

I would think they are slightly young for it but others may disagree. It depends on how easily scared they are as there are a few slightly dark scenes.

It isn’t however violent in the sense of what you are thinking. My DS(10) has been playing it since he was 6-7 years old and the swords are barely used anyway. It’s a creative game not a warfare theme.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 19/04/2025 23:01

Probably won’t make sense if they don’t no much about Minecraft. Take them to see dogman if that’s still at the cinema

Pinkchilli · 19/04/2025 23:01

I wouldn’t say the game is violent with certain settings. My 7 dc loved the movie at the cinema. We watched a copy yesterday at home & my almost 5yo dc was pretty frightened and we switched it off before the end. I’d say wait as it isn’t for that age group.

My dd plays Minecraft in creative mode so none of the fighting. I took her to the Minecraft movie and we both enjoyed it. However, she is older than your kids. I wouldn’t take 4&5 year olds to this movie.

Stickortwigs · 19/04/2025 23:16

My 7 year enjoyed it but I’d say she was only just old enough for it.

I think it would be quite boring for little ones that young, there’s only the tiniest scrap of a storyline as it is.

unlikelychump · 20/04/2025 04:29

I don't agree there is no warfare - that is the main plot. I thought there would be more creating but there was very little sadly

Here, the teens are going to this movie, causing mayhem, violence and trashing the theatre.
Son took his boys and was astounded by the behaviour.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 27/04/2025 17:25

My 7 year old found some bits (mostly the pigs) on the verge of frightening but enjoyed it generally despite not knowing anything about Minecraft.

8 year old older sibling who plays Minecraft loved it.

I was mostly baffled by it.

vincettenoir · 27/04/2025 17:28

My 5 yr old dd was unphased by the violence and seemed to like it. I don’t understand why because she had never played MC. I wanted to see Snow White.
