Anyone planning to see it? Or seen it since it came out before the weekend?

A Lithuanian film about a cat in a post-apocalyptic world - minuscule budget and recorded animal sounds in place of dialogue or anthropomorphic sounds from actors. I mean, it’s not exactly the normal Oscar fodder for animation.

It’s quite the Cinderella story: to beat Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 and the very successful Wild Robot. It’s also the first Lithuanian movie to ever be nominated.

I’m watching it tomorrow and I can’t wait. I love an inventive approach to film making, and animation in particular. The Spiderverse films, the stop motion of Kubo And The Two Strings and obviously Ghibli - I love them all.

I clicked on the thread with some trepidation as I'm also going tomorrow! The trailer looks beautiful and I can't wait either 😊

Edit: I think it's Latvian, not Lithuanian?

I’d like to see this. I’ve only seen clips but the animation looks beautiful and the cat behaviour / body language looks very well rendered. I also like that they have not gone with talking animals.

@SocksAndTheCity - you’re right of course! My mistake (and poor geography)

I saw this tonight. Totally loved it!

It was a delight.

Lovely storytelling, so much emotion and character, and no attempt to explain the strange world and how it all fit together. The cat doesn’t know or care, so we don’t.

I loved it! I loved the eeriness of the world. I will buy a Criterion Blu Ray when it releases to watch with my daughter when she's older.

Saw it last week. Absolutely brilliant, funny, touching and mesmerising. Beautiful animation.

Not heard of this!! It sounds really original Suitable to take mature Teen and tween?

Cheesecake53 · 28/03/2025 22:15

@researchers3 yes it is suitable. The film is really lovely.

Seeing it tomorrow. Not usually an animation fan but have really wanted to see this since I first heard about it and it was only scheduled for a limited release here. Then it won the Oscar!

Talisin · 29/03/2025 14:36

Oh my god. See it, it’s incredible. Reduced me to tears (it isn’t sad, it’s glorious) and I don’t cry easily.

Suzuki76 · 15/04/2025 23:35

Just me that didn't like it then! I thought it was frustrating.

Resurrecting the thread to gush about how wonderful this film is! Watched it tonight with my 6yr old who sobbed at various points throughout - probably was a little much for her with the sense of peril/ suspense at times but I’ve never seen her so moved by a film, we were both feeling it with those characters at every moment. She loved it. So lovely how much is conveyed with the art and only animal sounds. And so many unanswered questions for us to discuss together. Gorgeous.
