Sorry to start this now it’s finished! I was pleased with how it went on the whole, and got most of my predictions right! Haven’t seen all the films though. Looking forward to seeing Flow and I’m Still Here.

Really pleased that Anora and The Brutalist did well, as I loved both films, although I was sad that A Real Pain lost out on the screenplay award. Really happy for Mikey Madison and Kieran Culkin with their wins and loved his speech too, which was adorable (didn’t see Mikey M’s).

Also delighted that Adrien Brody got a second Oscar, which was very well deserved in my opinion, although I wasn’t a fan of his speech. I liked the sentiments of his speech, and agreed with what he said (in the clips I saw of it online), but I didn’t like that it took so long, to the point where he told the orchestra to stop playing so he could finish - and then still kept going.

Also very happy that The Brutalist got the soundtrack Oscar, as I thought it was very well deserved.

Hi OP, there's already a couple of threads.

I haven't seen Anora, but logged on to my local cinema this morning, and found they're putting it on later this week.

It doesn't sound my thing but I'm interested to see it since it's obviously a winner!

I think most of us are happy here on the film board where we've already discussed the films, @Turmerictolly .

I'm upset that Demi Moore didn't win, and I would have liked Brutalist to get Best Film but all in all I think it was OK - I wish Sing Sing had got more though.

It seemed a lot more wide open this year than last which was definitely more fun as it was really anybody's guess even in most of the big categories. I wish they'd had the songs being performed like they always have had (especially when they had the big orchestra!), and I didn't particularly like the host.

Fingers crossed Mariella Frostrup doesn't get invited back 😁

What do you mean about Mariella Frostrup? 😂 I didn’t watch any of the ceremony so feel out of the loop outside of the main events haha.

She did nothing but whinge and complain (and spectacularly missed the point of The Substance to an embarrassing degree), pretty much making it clear she thought that if she didn't like a film (Anora) it should not have been included at all, let alone win anything.

To be fair, as long as the coverage is on ITV we're never going to get the A List I suppose 😁

Ah okay - so the ITV coverage was of U.K. presenters discussing the Oscars? I feel really stupid, as I’d assumed the ITV coverage would be of the actual ceremony 😂 you can tell I didn’t watch it haha. I was obsessively refreshing the news all of last night to try and see who’d won though and I’m paying for it today. Main takeaway: I’m delighted Adrien Brody won but wasn’t a fan of his speech (0/10 for length and tone, but 9/10 for the sentiments in it).

@SocksAndTheCity

I did feel that way about what Mariella said at all.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/03/2025 23:20

Just finished watching The Substance. First two thirds, really interesting premise, not least because, ironically given the subject, Demi looks just beautiful at 62.
Last third though, WTF happened? I’m not easily shocked these days, pretty much seen it all at 60. But Crikey O’Reilly 😳 Felt akin to the “video nasties” of the 80s.
(Was that the idea?)

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/03/2025 00:42

Thanks you, Socks.
