Please could you suggest anything you've loved.

Doesn't actually have to be happy or a comedy. A cosy watch would do as would a non-ARRGH type of thriller - something mentally engaging or challenging. Something good that is not going to be distressing.

No love/romance/happy ever after.
No horror or violence or anything aggitating.
Nothing with jump scares.
Nothing very slow or boring - so not like Potato Peel Society, that one about the seashanty men, or the one with the woman who opens a bookshop in the middle of nowhere.

For example things I've enjoyed that would fit what I'm looking for but I've already seen
Wine Country (group of women on a holiday to Napa Valley)
Red Notice (Ryan Reynolds)
Red One (Christmas film about santa being kidnapped)
Spy (Miranda Hart, Melissa - comedy spy film)
The Glass Onion (I know this does feature death but I was ok with this sort of thing - cosy murder type)

I hate this as I end up scrolling and scrolling and not picking anything so thought I'd ask for some help!

The intern? There's a little bit of romance but it's not the main plot of the film. Nice combo of humour/a tiny bit of action/lots of feel good!

SocksAndTheCity · 16/02/2025 20:30

My go to is Babe 😊

TheSpottedZebra · 16/02/2025 20:31

Sorry for your loss.
No idea what to suggest but STRONGLY SUGGEST you stay away from that Reese Witherspoon/Will Ferrell thing that Prime are pushing.

It's shite. Not good shite, but utter, shitest shite.

Aoppley · 16/02/2025 20:33

On Amazon: Whip it. I'm sorry you are grieving x

mum2jakie · 16/02/2025 20:35

If you like Ryan Reynolds and have Disney+ Fall Guy is good and meets your criteria.

Dragonstar · 16/02/2025 20:35

I watched the whole of Gilmore Girls after my Dad died. (And painted the kitchen a dreadful grey colour)

But GG was a nice distraction.

warmheartcoldfeet · 16/02/2025 20:38

Knives Out will keep your mind entertained/distracted for a while.

It's a good whodunnit

LivelyMintViper · 16/02/2025 20:40

Men in Black.

bunnypenny · 16/02/2025 20:48

Hidden Figures is absolutely brilliant, on Netflix. Historical drama based on a true story.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 16/02/2025 20:48

Clarksons Farm on Amazon Prime

WompWompBoom · 16/02/2025 20:49

Fall guy is a good RR film.

series wise, I really enjoyed the night agent. And I also think the suggestion of clarksons farm is good.

Beamur · 16/02/2025 20:52

The Holdovers + it's a bit slow burn but quite sweet. Poignant and a little bittersweet.

Brooklyn 99 got me through lots of sleepless nights after losing my dad.

Sorry for your loss @RuffRuffRuf x

Ponderingwindow · 16/02/2025 20:54

not a film and there is some romance, but Schitts creek always cheers me up.

don’t know if it’s on Amazon or Netflix, but Stick It comes to mind. A fictional story of a gymnast with an attitude who has to both learn to accept help and be true to herself.

Sorry to hear you are grieving too. I lost my dear dad very suddenly at Christmas and am finding it hard to concentrate on any films or tv so I will give these a go.

nonevernotever · 16/02/2025 21:13

I think it's on Amazon, but Stephen Poliakoff"s Perfect Strangers about a family reunion might fit the bill?

AwakeNotThruChoice · 16/02/2025 21:18

100% Bank of Dave!

Some of the Motherland episodes

Glow Up series on Netflix (it’s a bbc one)

The Other Shore - excellent
