Conclave- just no!

I think all the usual suspects are represented, aren't they? The Guardian is saying that Nicole Kidman has been left out, but surely she wouldn't expect a nomination for Babygirl, would she?

I certainly hope Conclave doesn't win everything. I especially don't want Ralph Fiennes or Hugh Grant to win best actor.

I just think Conclave is a really boring and tedious film!

I just wrote some thoughts on Better Man and realise that I am pissed off that this wonderful film missed out on any kind of BAFTA nomination. I don't think that Conclave is a better film. But I reckon BAFTA was seduced by its pompous pretensions.

I didn't find Conclave tedious, but I do think that it's a bit up its own bum and that it seems to have been created specifically to win awards nominations.

All those nominations for Conclave and Emilia Pérez were O.T.T. Selina Gomez’s nomination was also ridiculous, hopefully she won’t get Oscar nominated.

I’m surprised Daniel Craig was snubbed.

A woman has lost an opportunity as one of the leading actress nominations has gone to a man.

Eh? Did I miss something?

Irritated by Emilia Perez best "Actress" Nomination.

Not seen a lot, but I'd like
Dune 2 for sound/visual effects
Nosfertu for Cinematography/hair/costume
The Wild Robot for children's/animated. The way they brought to life the pastel sketch style of rhe books is soooo beautiful.

Need to see some more of them!
Missed The Outrun at the cinema sadly.

Maggiethecat · 17/01/2025 18:57

Haven’t seen many of the films but did like Saoirse in the Outrun.
Just came back from A Real Pain and was very moved by performances of Jesse Esseinberg and Kieran Culkin who was nominated. Thought Jesse deserved nomination.
Looking forward to the Brutalist but will have to limber up for 3hrs 45 mins!!

Sandwichgen · 17/01/2025 20:06

3h45min? Crikey. Might cancel my booking

Oh. I am irritated too.

'A woman has lost an opportunity as one of the leading actress nominations has gone to a man.'

^^ What she said. What a sick joke.

All screenings have intervals.

Maggiethecat · 18/01/2025 00:03

15 min loo break 😂

Maggiethecat · 18/01/2025 00:04

That would be a first for me at the cinema

Sandwichgen · 18/01/2025 14:40

Think I’ll wait and watch at home

colouringindoors · 18/01/2025 19:04

3 hours 45!!!

MaryWhitehouseExperienced · 19/01/2025 14:30

I take back what I said about Kidman not deserving a nomination. She should have received that 6th nomination.

Sandwichgen · 19/01/2025 16:34

Angela Jolie as well - she was stunning in Maria

Sandwichgen · 19/01/2025 16:35

Angelina …

Completely baffled by Selena Gomez getting a nomination, her delivery was so bad she sounded like a robot designed by Simone Giertz!
Same for Audiard getting a betst director nom - some aspects of EP are so amateurish it's really difficult to justify it.

I would love Craig instead of Grant, 'All we imagine as light' instead of EP in the Best Film and 'Challengers' score instead of EP.

However, a lot of those categories are very exciting! E.g. leading actress/actor include such a variety of performances from different genres that were often shut out of award considerations. In cinematography & production design we have a movie made for $12M (Brutalist) vs big blockbusters with budgets overs $100M. Overall a good year for movies IMO.
