Civil War - I thought Kirsten Dunst was excellent in this. Quite a subdued film.

Alien Romulus - Was very into this for the first half - great production design and solid world building. Good performances. But then lost me for the second half. Oh dear.

Dune Pt One - struggled with it because not into books so went in cold. Quite a tough first hour. But then thought it was good. Again, Rebecca Ferguson was excellent - but then she always is...

Loved Civil War too. I loved Priscilla too!

All of Us Strangers
American Fiction
The Holdovers

But there are some mentioned here that I haven't seen and will now look up

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 26/12/2024 20:19

Dune 2

SocksAndTheCity · 26/12/2024 20:49

Priscilla was the first film I went to see this year (at 3pm on New Years Day).

I'm adding Joker: Folie À Deux to my list, which I think now has 12 on it. I ought to whittle it down a bit Smile

CleanHouseGoals · 27/12/2024 11:06

Makes a note to watch "Priscilla"

StanfreyPock · 27/12/2024 11:13

Agree with

La Chimera
Conclave
Paddington in Peru

Eclectic choice to which I add:

Perfect Days - a must watch still available to stream on Mubi and the most perfect, moving film, about a Tokyo toilet cleaner (yes!). Actually released 2023 but not till 2024 in UK. Also a brilliant soundtrack of his old cassette tapes played in his little van zooming around Tokyo.

The Wild Robot

Genuinely my favourite animation. I enjoyed it more than the kids and sobbed like a baby, twice!

First fil of 2024 for me too I believe! I think it’s on MUBI should you want to rewatch.

I enjoyed Perfect Days @StanfreyPock (and I've seen it twice), but I didn't think it was one of Wenders best. I agree the soundtrack is great though Smile

Priscilla is on MUBI @Britpopbaby , but I'm saving my 30 day free trial for when I run out of things to watch. I did see it again on something else, but for the life of me I can't remember where.

Artyblartfast · 27/12/2024 15:24

Omg. Just watched the Holdovers. Thought it was going to be a funny film. 😭😭😭

It is very sweet but need an antidote now and a tissue 🥹🥲

It's the only children's animation I've seen in a good number of years that I hope / think will become a classic like Toy Story.
Beautiful film.

FedUpWithXmasNow · 31/12/2024 21:09

La Chimera was frankly bizarre!

Kneecap - watched this twice and am now a massive fan of the band
The Outrun - stayed with me for ages
All of Us Strangers - amazing. Keep meaning to rewatch

lillylallylu · 03/01/2025 09:09

The Substance
Anora
Mrs Harris goes to Paris

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 03/01/2025 09:15

All of us strangers was my number one film, I remember watching it in January and thinking any film would need to go a long way to beat it and none did, I adored it.

Other contenders
Wild Robot
Civil War
The Holdovers
Late Night with the Devil
Wicked (may be coloured by the experience of seeing it twice with DD)

I am behind though on some of the more recent releases as we don't get to go to cinema very often so rely on (reasonably priced) streamers!

Funkyslippers · 05/01/2025 15:23

All of us Strangers & Paddington in Peru

footballfan1963 · 08/01/2025 02:04

The six triple eight. It's on Netflix and well worth a watch.

I watched it last night and it's one of those rare films that I want to watch again

As a pp said upthread:

Firebrand
Conclave
