Gladiator 2 - anyone else looking forward to?

Just watching the original. Such. An. Incredible. Film.

Dodgy CGI aside it's just so good. I watch it every year and still cry at "Go to them " at the end .

Booed tickets for the new one and have told myself not to compare just try to enjoy it as a stand alone film.

Going on Sunday. Slightly nervous about the CGI sharks but willing to put up with a lot for Pedro Pascal.

I was hoping it would be a worthy sequel but I haven't heard a positive review of it yet. Will still watch it though I'm sure.

Cannot stand Pedro Pascal though, and I have a feeling he's been miscast in this.

Most of the UK press reviews are positive? The Guardian gave it 4/5. I'm seeing it tomorrow, can't wait!

Is exciting isn't it? Although CGI sharks may be a bit too daft for me and I can normally suspend my disbelief quite easily

Love the original but I'm just not convinced about this one. PP was amazing in GOT but I've not enjoyed him in anything else, PM I'm not a huge fan of.

I enjoyed all the clips with Denzel but the original was such a perfect movie I can't see this living up to it. Had it been it's own movie rather than a sequel I would prefer that if that makes sense? But then I feel like 90% of movies now are either sequels, reboots or spin offs!

PP was great, not miscast at all, and DW stole the movie. PM … didn’t really catch fire for me and I can’t put my finger on why. That goes for the movie as a whole: sets are amazing, costumes amazing, it’s a real spectacle but I was watching it, not feeling it iyswim

Agree about DW. I think Mescal excels in more intimate 1-2-1 scenes, but the scenes in which we had to give a rousing speech to the crowd were a bit underwhelming. Connie Nielsen was a bit underwhelming.

I don't think the first part is a good movie, so I went to this one without treating it as a serious one, so I did enjoy it. The script could have been generated by chat gpt and some of it is just ridiculous, but if you go to have fun then the movie, and Denzel, will deliver.

I saw it this afternoon and did enjoy it but had to watch a lot through my fingers as I am very squeamish. I would say it is worth rewatching the first if it has been a while as there is a lot of throw back to it and I had forgotten the finer details

I was in Malta when it was being filmed and it was fun to see what the set looked like from the front! Sadly I did not see any of the actors despite being on high alert all week.

I've just been to see this and I thought it was dreadful. PM was underwhelming and unconvincing. He was out acted by DW. The script was ridiculous. As for those bald, sabre toothed monkey things, WTAF!!

I'd give it 3 stars. Paul Mescal was ok but he doesn't come close to Russell Crowe's charisma. Crowe was perfect in the original.

I think I am in different universe with film viewing. I came out of Joker 2 thinking The best film ever Oscar for Joaquin reviews were terrible. Paddington 3 - wonderful - reviews not so.
And as for Gladiator 2 tonight. OH my. Well I have been haunted by Adam from all of us strangers for months now so I was quite unsure about watching Gladiator 2 but wow it was amazing. So powerful. I thought Paul Mescal was fantastic. Loved Denzel. Loved Matt Lucas, sad to see Derek Jacobi killed all these years on but he is forever wonderful in In the Night Garden.
Fantastic effects. So good at the cinema.
