Practicalities in films

I was watching the 2006 film of Miami Vice last night. At one point Colin Farrell heads off to Cuba with the female lead on his massive power boat. He had asked her to go for a drink with him and she took him to Cuba for a mojito

So after a few mojitos & a bit of dancing I'm thinking "I hope he's got spare pants on his boat as the ones he has on must be minging"

Next day he's wearing the same shirt which again i figure must be pretty ripe & unpleasant.

Love the film but these things are starting to prey on my mind when watching film and TV.

And when someone brings someone a coffee in a takeaway cup & you can tell its empty....

Yes well you rarely see people go to the toilet or brush their teeth too. Women still seem to wake up with great make up and hair as well. And all that gymnastic sex and they get up the next morning throw on their clothes and head to the office without a shower...

Perhaps he has several copies of the shirt and pants.

Haven't seen MV but how happy would their security services, etc, be with them just popping over to another country especially Cuba? I know he's a policeman but I would imagine that border force, customs and the coastguard aren't overly happy with little boats popping backwards and forwards from Cuba.

I also think the going to work after spending the night with someone and being shown rushing out in same clothes/unwashed/teeth uncleaned seems a bit grim. Also happens after getting drunk and waking on sofa, they'll rush into work and maybe only grab a coffee.

Its TV rather than film... but how big is the prison on Saint Marie for all those murderers?

On a similar note... common film and tv plot is person wrongly accused of murder, terrorism etc, goes on run to prove innocence. Then they just go back to their normal life... when a few days before they were plastered all over the news as a fugitive? Wheres the gossip about them following them everywhere?

@mondaytosunday

And don't forget that the women all seem to sleep in their bras! I have seen showering and teeth brushing but tends to be in grittier films.

Mothership4two · 21/05/2024 09:55

Also wear bras in hospital @mitogoshi. Women lying in a hospital bed and boobs are sticking up.

There's so much morning, just-woken-up kissing in film and TV. So grim.

And so much kissing and sexing in olden-times TV and film even though they all must've stunk to high heaven and been absolutely grouted in knob cheese.

All coffee cups and mugs on TV are always empty. And actors make zero effort to make them seem remotely full.

I actually really struggle to watch TV or films these days because I notice these things way too much and get irritated.

You need to listen to The Rest Is Entertainment podcast. They do a Q&A which covers this kind of thing.

Yes, I often notice when something, like a cup, is supposedly full, but by the way the person lifts it, it's clearly empty.

After living in New York, it drives me crazy to see people depicted as not locking their door or not having adequate locks.
