Couldn't see a thread. Has anyone else been to see If? It was far better than I expected and will watch it again I think when it comes out.

Great cast too. Would recommend, I think a lot of the second half is more aimed at the adults though. A sweet family film though.

Thank you for this, I love it when a film surprises. That happened with "Migration" which was far better than the trailer suggested

SocksAndTheCity · 17/05/2024 22:02

I really wanted to like this but I just didn't. The characters weren't appealing so I didn't really care what happened although there were some lovely moments (most of them at the end).

It didn't help that I can't stand Ryan Reynolds, but I didn't know he was in it (I just wandered in because I was at a loose end for a couple of hours). The kids in the cinema seemed to enjoy it though Smile

ToastandJamandTea · 26/05/2024 23:52

Enjoyed it much more than I thought it would. It was nice to see a film where the child was allowed to exist in their grief.
I shed a few tears as did my 8 year old. My ten year old who has ASD and doesn't really enjoy anything with strong emotions said it was OK but could have more of the marshmallow in it 😂

We all found it boring, repetitive (how many times did we need to see her bringing her dad flowers in hospital?) and the characters not engaging. There were lots of restless kids in our cinema asking is it finished yet/can we go home so we weren't the only ones. I wanted to like it.

TotallyKerplunked · 29/05/2024 11:14

On the flip side we all loved Garfield.

Getoutgetout · 29/05/2024 20:47

Made the mistake of going with a 5 year old who sat through it but was bored. Definitely aimed at older kids or adults. I found it mind numbing and slow but I’d been hoping for something funny and that would amuse my kids!

Mirandasbiggestfan · 02/06/2024 11:50

Hello, thinking of taking my six your old autistic DD to see this. Is there anything particularly scary/ menacing in the film? We went to see Migration & she found that too scary & we had to keep leaving the cinema 🙈.

Getoutgetout · 03/06/2024 21:50

I took my 7 year old autistic dd and I can’t remember anything scary (and I know what you mean with Migration!) but I wouldn’t recommend the film with young kids. The trailer makes it look like it is funny but it’s about a 12 year old girl coping with the loss of her mother. My 5 year old (also autistic!) daughter was so bored. My 7 year old liked it but she was determined to find it funny where she could! I’d hold off and go see Inside Out 2!

Mirandasbiggestfan · 03/06/2024 22:09

That’s really helpful @Getoutgetout, I didn’t realise the storyline was so heavy. I did see it was a PG. Good tip about Inside Out 2!

For a moment I thought you meant the one with Malcolm Macdowell! Definitely not for kids...

Greengrapeofhome · 03/06/2024 22:16

My daughter (8) loved it. I wasn’t as impressed. Why did the grandma freak the girl out so much when her dad was simply napping?!

also I was wondering what the dad had that made him not sick but needing to stay in his own hospital room for ages while apparently really quite healthy

I did like the big purple creature though

Me too

Orangebadger · 03/06/2024 22:34

I enjoyed it as did both my kids aged 6 and 11. My 6 yr old said it was much better than he thought it would be.

The one thing that confused me too was the bit with the grandma freaking out about the girls dad etc. I could see the purpose of it in the film but it may have been better if he was actually more unwell that he was! That part was odd. But overall I loved the whole movie especially as I had many IFs as a kid and would love to have one now!

Just left it and came straight to MN.
What a load of crap, sorry worse than The Fall Guy
