The book was so wonderful and I always dread that the director got it all wrong [supercilious - I actually looked that up emote).

It got horrendous reviews and bombed at the US box office.... I think it was chalked up to being too difficult to cover all those years apart in the space of one film. Javier had to age rather rapidly in the space of minutes...

Think one of those books that perhaps should remain untouched.

Went to see it tonight... the film was actually quite acceptable, but the make up was too obvious and the actors tried too hard to look old.

Apparently the writer refused screenplay rights for it for about 14 years....

It's based om his parents' love story according o his autobiography so he must have felt very strongly about it. It was such a beautiful book - not sure I'd like to see it. It might spoil it and get me grumpy. At least if I wait for the DVD I can moan at the TV screen!
