I didn’t know much about Bob Marley before seeing the film and I can’t say I feel I know anymore about him after seeing the film. The acting was great but I was bored throughout. I think they were going for, in parts, something like they did in The Doors film but it just didn’t entertain me at all.

Really loved it. However I thought they could have made more of the fact his cancer wasnt caused by a football injury as that’s just not how cancer works. Also could have covered more about how he treated Rita, she is an amazing woman and she went through some hard times for that man.

I also didn’t think his assassin apologised but I haven’t googled.

I also thought the patois was spoken really slowly for added accessibility 🤣

I just came out of this today and loved it too. I thought they did explain enough when the doctor said that it wasn't the injury but that his toe not healing was caused by the cancer but that the injury didn't cause cancer. But I don't know if that was an important part of his general story. The footage at the end was great, and I found the background story really interesting and something I didn't know. I did look up Haile Selassie and Rastafarianism when I got home. Apparently he repeatedly tried to tell the Rastafarai that he wasn't a God. How strange that must have been for him.
My dad has Exodus on vinyl, but I don't know what happened to my parents vinyl now. I think I'll buy it again.

You must watch it at the cinema then for sure - make sure you do!!. Exodus plays a big part in the film.
We watched it right to the end of the credits and another lady said to us they didn't want to leave either.

I'd forgotten Id posted this. I did get choked up right at the start when they played Redemption Song because I didn't expect it, and I haven't wanted to listen to it since my dads funeral, but hearing it again all the way through at the end was lovely actually.

Er .. I think on the basis of intoxicant use you would have to write off most of the cultural icons the world has ever had!

But hey I think you are just trying to get a reaction. So I will give it to you:

"How dare you!" (In mock dramatic voice)

Willmafrockfit · 06/03/2024 18:25

he made good tunes

He was someone who had talent and didn't have to post snidey anonymous comments to anonymous folk. He had a life and a legacy.

We (DH, two teenage DDs and I) saw it yesterday. It was reasonably enjoyable. If there was a part of the action or dialogue that was a bit less than interesting it didn't matter: there would soon be another bit of Bob Marley's music along to cheer you up!

Bob Marley is a cultural icon. His album Exodus was the best album of the 20th Century according to Time magazine. I wonder what @User135644 has ever achieved? I'm guessing not much.

i took your advice @LifesTooShortToLearnPolish and when not understanding it, looked forward to the music
i think subtitles would have been helpful.
the actor did very well with the accent to my untrained ear.
