Heavy, heavy and heavy. Zac Efron really does show his acting abilities. Good but heavy.

I watched today, thought it was really good. I'm not a huge wrestling fan either. Zac Effron was great.

I really enjoyed. Had no prior knowledge of the the true story behind it so no idea how accurate it is but I really like Holt McCallany from Mindhunter.

Saw this yesterday as a long-time wrestling fan and thought it was mostly excellent although a couple of missteps for me - the bit with Ric Flair where Kevin 'lost his temper' and got disqualified didn't fit with wrestling being pre-determined (and I think might have been confusing for non wrestling fans). Also the mawkish reuniting on the lake felt like a bit of a jarring difference in tone.

The performances were incredible though - especially Ephron and the guy from The Bear who played Kerry Von Erich and looked so spot on it took my breath away for a second.

The tragedy of the Von Erichs is they actually cut another son (who died by suicide), a divorce and loss of a child from the story - presumably because it felt too unbelievable for audiences. So very sad.

I've watched it twice I absolutely loved it. All except that cringey scene near the end. No idea why they decided that was a good idea. I thought the acting all round was really amazing the except Ric Flair guy.

Saw this today. I enjoyed it even though it's such a sad story. I did find zac efron's face a little distracting as he looks odd now but he still gave a good performance. The scene that got to me was him crying whilst watching his children play.

Watched this last night. I’m a wrestling fan and I actually had the honour of seeing Kevin von Erich in person presenting at a WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony in Dallas. What an incredible man and Zac Efron did an amazing job with the part.

What an absolutely awful man Fritz was. When he told the lads not to cry at the funeral, fucking hell. The bit at the end with Kevin and his sons had me sobbing.

I know this is an old thread but watched it this afternoon omg how much tragedy can one family endure. Zac Efron was fantastic as was the guy from The Bear. Such a sad story, a lot of the deaths could have been avoided.

KylieKangaroo · 13/07/2024 22:11

My other half said the family actually had more tragedy which they left out of the film as it was too sad!

Lovewine1975 · 14/07/2024 09:16

@KylieKangaroo I had a Google and there was another brother who committed suicide, the poor mum loosing 5 children, how would you go on after that

Just watched this tonight after noticing it was free on Prime. Such a beautifully shot film and such a heartbreaking story. I have no interest in wrestling but it had me gripped.
