Oscar nominations

I’ve seen Oppenheimer, Barbie and The Holdovers.

My call is Cillian Murphy best actor and Oppenheimer best film/screenplay.

Da’vine Joy Randolph is strongly being tipped for best supporting actress in The Holdovers and I do hope she gets it. The Holdovers is an incredible film.

Anyone else have any bets on who they think will win?

I would like Holdovers to win some of the categories.

Paul Giamatti I’ll be very surprised if he wins best actor, don’t think Oscar voters would choose him over Murphy. I’d like him to win but then I liked Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer.

It’s a pity Dominic Sessa wasn’t nominated for best supporting actor too.

I was pleased to see Lily Gladstone nominated, I thought her performance was incredible in Flower Moon.

I haven’t seen Zone of Interest so will try and get to see that one.

Lily Gladstone was amazing. She had real presence. She was so still in the film.

Lovers The Holdovers so would like ro see Paul G and Da'Vine were both great.

I've not seen Oppenheimer so will stream it, Nyad and Anantomy of a Fall in the next few weeks.

Only four nominations from films I have seen, down from six last year.

Emily Blunt glad to see nominated.

I’m torn between Mark Ruffalo and RDJ for best supporting male. Both were excellent.
Poor Things for best film, costume and cinematography.
Lily Gladstone for Actress.
I didn’t like Barbie so I’m annoyed by all the fuss. I assume that Ryan Gosling and America Ferreira will refuse an Oscar seeing as they’ve made statements.
Saltburn should’ve have been nominated, definitely for Rosamund Pike.

Anything else I’m undecided or have not seen the films.

Anatomy of a Fall seems to have done very well - look forward to watching this tonight!

I know!!! How can they expect Oscar nominations?! I love Margot Robbie but Barbie wasn't anything special or challenging to act. It was just a regular movie for me. Ryan Gosling and Ferrera shouldn't have been nominated either.

Looking to watch Poor Things after so many nominations.

I feel so cynical about Ryan Gosling’s statement because it may be a P.R move to get him the Oscar. And with the backlash growing about the Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie snubs, him and his team will know the Academy may feel under pressure to reward Barbie in a major category. I haven’t seen the statement from America Ferrera. Her nomination is the worst, all she had was that clunky speech which any decent actress could have done to the same level.

I’m thrilled for the Nyad ladies (this is Jodie Foster’s first nomination in 29 years!) but sad Dominic Messa didn’t make it. I absolutely loved The Holdovers.

They definitely would not refuse an Oscar.

Totally agree about America Ferrera, I liked Barbie but didn’t think she was stand out at all.

I hope Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt win, they were both excellent. I haven't seen The Holdovers yet but I'm going to see it at the weekend hopefully. I think Lily Gladstone will win but I didn't enjoy Killers of the Flower Moon. I agree that Barbie was fun but Ryan Gosling and America Ferreira don't deserve Oscars and Rosamund Pike 100% deserved a nomination.

I thought Cailee Spaeny deserved a nomination for Priscilla. She was amazing.

I watched the Holdovers last night and that can win everything it’s nominated for. Why wasn’t Dominic Sessa nominated for best supporting though?

Not sure why Sessa wasn’t nominated but he’s won best supporting actor at other events for this. From what I read he was supposed to get an Oscar nomination but missed out.

I was really disappointed that Leonardo Di Caprio was not nominated for Killers of the Flower Moon. I thought he was phenomenal.

I can't understand why Barbie was even considered in the running for any Oscars, it was a very average movie at best, nothing clever or compelling about it.

After seeing Poor Things I'm assuming Emma Stone will win best Actress.

Women playing prostitutes usually do... 🙄

Just caught up and watched Killers of the Flower Moon. Agree with you re Leo, he was amazing.

Lily should/will get the Oscar for that one.

I wasn't overly keen on the film, shooting of it, story skipped back and forth. Just over 3 hours of my life I won't get back!

Barbie, feminist icon type film (in eyes of filmmakers and awards ceremonies). I saw it and thought it was average.

I think Dominic Sessa missed at the Oscars because he was up against mostly well-known actors and he's pretty much an unknown.

I'm looking forward to seeing American Fiction, it's out here on Friday and got two acting nominations.

Bradley Cooper is just trying to win an Oscar with his choices these days. He’s trying too hard and it’s not coming off well IMO.

Yes!

And you don't see her team making a fuss because she didn't get one. The Barbie lot are so entitled. Just because their film made a billion dollars doesn't make it the artistic achievement of the century.
