Saw this today and thought it was a lovely film. I thought it was just going to be a comedy but it was much more.

Really enjoyed it. But I did love Sideways. It made me feel a bit tight-chested when I recognised in Paul some of the spiky, lonely individuals I've met in life.

We saw this last night.

I absolutely loved it, a glorious and ultimately warm hearted film. The story is fairly slight, but the acting from all the lead characters is amazing.

I thought the young lead was incredible.

@rookiemere sooo agree on the young lead actor, thought he was brilliant and hope to see him in many more films.
Also the woman, such a sensitive part done with depth.
Loved it all.

We saw it yesterday and absolutely loved it.

It could so easily have gone down the cheesy 'too American'-type ending, but didn't do that. I laughed and cried. The acting was fantastic. So much conveyed just through looks.

I’ve just come back from seeing this. It was such a gentle film & I really enjoyed it.

I finally saw it tonight. I thought it was lovely. The main actors were excellent but the small parts were well cast too. I thought the two younger boys were very sweet. I don't think I'd seen Carrie Preston in anything since True Blood and she was ideal for her role.

I loved the story arc, the characters' development. It was subtle but also moving. Bit of a masterclass for me, even though it took me while to warm to some of the characters. Luckily I hadn't seen the trailer, so had no expectations.

PanettonePudding · 05/02/2024 23:05

Totally underwhelming. The young male actor was great though, but I really don't understand why Giamatti is being lauded for his competent performance.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 12/02/2024 21:34

Really loved this film. Loved the story, loved the characters, loved the whole 70s aesthetic.

Dominic Sessa really reminds of a young Brad Dourrif.

GuessThatGranny · 19/02/2024 16:49

This film is such a mismatch to its trailer, though also fairly predictable.

some nice emotional touches, and I had a tear in my eye at the end, but it’s not a classic IMHO, just a relatively nice, gentle, slow film.

I can finally now watch this on NOW and SKY TV

And I'm thoroughly enjoying it as I knew I would
