I love the "Parasites", however don't know much about Korean cinematography. Can someone recommend another Korean movie which is equally as good.

Not film but series - Squid Game! May not be your thing. But some great characters

Train to Busan is ace (if you like zombies)

My 10 year old DD is into anything Korean. She persuaded me to watch the series The Glory and I was instantly hooked. Subject matter is quite sad but it was absolutely amazing. Now got her trawling through Netflix to find some other good ones.

If you like Parasite, I’m not saying they’re the same as they’re not but a lot of the Japanese films eg Shoplifters, Our Little Sister and others are similar.

There are a few Korean dramas and films but unsure where to watch online offhand.

What genre?

Excellent film. I watched it about 4 times (and I don't particularly like zombie films).

Miss Granny is on Netflix at the moment - all about a cantankerous elderly grandmother who becomes a teenager (and plays in her grandson's band). It's much lighter than Parasite but I enjoyed it.

Past lives

Burning

Memories of Murder

PoppyCup · 11/12/2023 22:07

I loved Burning.

Look up Tartan Asia Extreme for a range of Korean films, A Tale of Two Sisters is great, and The Isle is interesting too. It's a long time since I watched any of them but there's plenty in their range to chose from

Same director as Parasite is The Host which is brilliant. Brutal but awesome is the Vengeance trilogy. Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance. I Saw The Devil and The Wailing also good. I like alot of horror tho!

The Shameless (2015).

Britpopbaby · 23/12/2023 14:34

Mother (I think it’s the same director of parasite). I watched it on ITV player at the time I believe.

Not a film (a tv series), but Crash Landing on You. It is fantastic. I have never cried so much watching something on tv! Just so you know, the main actors are married in real life (if you watch it/have watched it, you will understand why I added that comment 😉).

We thoroughly enjoyed Forgotten on Netflix

JSA - Joint Security Agency. Cameout in about 2000.

Aboutthe troops Manning the guard posts either side of the DMZ and the international observers who check them. A very good drama

Mother (2009) South Korean neo-noir thriller film directed by Bong Joon-ho, starring Kim Hye-ja and Won Bin.

The plot follows a mother who, after her intellectually disabled son is accused of the brutal murder of a young girl, attempts to find the true killer to get her son freed.

Epli · 30/12/2023 12:47

From the same director:
-Mother
-Memories of Murder

Park Chan-wook
-Vengeance trilogy (quite brutal)
-my favourite of his: Handmaiden
-Decision to leave

Kim ki-duk
-3-iron
-Spring, summer, autumn, winter...and spring
