Any recommendations? Most years we find one that is truly ridiculous but fabulous with it - not seeing much at the moment that looks as though it will be this year's one...

Our favourite of recent years was A Castle for Christmas but we're prepared to revert to the standard big-city-girl-goes-back-to-small-town-and-finds-love Hallmark standard ;-)

I watched Too Close for Christmas with Chad Michael Murray in it a few days ago. As much as it was predictable, I actually really enjoyed it!

Sturmundcalm · 08/12/2023 14:51

sorry! saw this message then got distracted and have hardly been on MN since... i did watch the trailer but chad michael murray's "sincere" face left me a bit cold 😂 will check with DD if she fancies it though!

Ah I loved a castle for christmas. i really wasn't expecting to based on the adverts but it was so cute.

Also been disappointed in the lack of crappy christmas movies this year. No princess switched, no christmas prince or anything else similar to them. i haven't watched a single christmas movie this year

Morewineplease10 · 08/12/2023 15:03

I like Xmas with the Coopers.

Is the Castle film the one with Brooke Shields in?

Rumourhasit1 · 08/12/2023 15:04

This is Christmas which is on Now, it's about a group of train commuters.

Pillboxer · 08/12/2023 15:12

Weirdly, my 11 year old DS liked the ghastly Falling For Christmas (hotel heiress Lindsay Lohan has amnesia after a ski accident and discovers how to make beds and be normal after being rescued by a struggling inn owner with an adorable daughter and a conveniently dead wife).

Genie?

Falling for Christmas was really good. This year I’ve watched the Christmas switch which was disappointing, although Jennifer Garner was good.

I also watched the one with Heather Graham where she goes to see her old best friend .. that wasn’t great either!

SecondUsername4me · 08/12/2023 22:50

The Lindsay Lohan one is peak naff Christmas movie and perfect for seasonal watching - its so naff its kind of tongue in cheek.

Sturmundcalm · 09/12/2023 08:32

Falling for Christmas didn't quite hit the heights of a Castle for Christmas or A Christmas Prince (do have a separate fondness for films like The Prince & Me) but as PP said was good for the ultimate naffness. Which has reminded me that I did also like Christmas With You last year - burnt out popstar finds wholesome small town happiness...

The Heather Graham one had us crying with laughter at how ridiculous it was. And the plot is largely meaningless.

Love Hard from a couple of years ago is great

charabang · 12/12/2023 00:30

I enjoyed Your Christmas or Mine 2 (and #1 last year) on Prime. Rich boy, poor girl meet each others families... UK film with Daniel Mays amd Angela Griffen amongst other recogniseable faces.

Forestdweller11 · 12/12/2023 00:35

Last Christmas? Bit of a tear jerker though. The castle one and the falling one both take some beating

Jbck · 12/12/2023 01:21

If you liked Castle for Christmas you must watch Christmas in Scotland. Some real wooden acting but filmed around Culross which is really cute.

Genie was fun.

Plmoknijbuhv · 12/12/2023 05:01

I liked love hard and holidate, both on netflix

Agree with these

Sturmundcalm · 12/12/2023 22:34

Having watched the trailer, Christmas in Scotland looks like it might be just the thing - so bad it's fabulous 😂😂😂

And I watched About Fate on Amazon the other day which wasn't bad, although is a NYE film rather than Christmas. Have seen quite a few of the others but will give Your Christmas or Mine a try too.

Last Christmas! It's 2019 I watched it in the cinema before pandemic and loved it

OneFrenchEgg · 13/12/2023 01:24

Oooh marking place , I love a good terrible Christmas film. I must dig out the slippers and the rose

tulipsunday · 13/12/2023 07:56

My dad's Christmas date was a pretty good festive British film. Currently on Netflix.
