Started watching it, got most of the way through, cake, letters, shags his mate (?), got bored and played on phone then realised she was crying at her mums (?) and then had to go get the teen so missed the rest.
So - my guess is he was actually controlling and emotionally abusive and that's the twist?

No real twist. She gets her shit together, starts her dream career, final letter tells her to find love again, she goes back to Ireland and meets up with his mate again, the end. I prefered the book, I didn't hate all the characters in the book...

They translated a really quite sweet Irish book to an Americanised rom-com and it didn't work for me. Which was a shame because I love a bit of Gerard Butler and I pictured him when I read it. Was thrilled they cast him, then I saw the rest of the very American cast and was like hang on... 🤨

Oh I never read it. I think I knew it was a book. I hate when that happens. Shame about the ending I really thought I'd got it right.

The cast was dreadful. It could have been slightly better if they’d just let Gerard be Scottish. His accent was awful. I didn’t like Hillary Swank either. I don’t know who should have played the character but it wasn’t her.

Yes I was very confused about his accent, I know it was written by an Irish author? But either leave him as Scottish or get an Irish actor?
I really didn't like it all and now I'm so confused that there wasn't a twist.
