Similar to Goodnight Mr Tom

DS(8) is autistic and has always struggled with fiction or story following. I put Goodnight Mr Tom on last night for him and he loved it - kept him engaged all the way through.

He's asked for me to find similar films for him to watch - he particular likes peoples lives in war time etc - no animals to be harmed!

Any ideas?

I'd love if they re-made Goodnight Mr Tom. One of my favourite books as a kid but the boy who played William was a bit lacklustre.
