Please can the film buffs of mumsnet help me? I’ve had an image of a children’s film in my head for years (decades?).

The film is a 70s (or even 60s) children’s film. The scene I remember is towards the end of the film. During the film, a young, poor lad befriends a pony and looks after him. At the end of the film, the rightful owner, a girl from a rich family turns up, and recognises the pony as hers. To decide who the pony should live, they let the pony decide. This is the scene I recall, the pony in the field with the two children. I can’t remember who wins (I suspect the lad).

Does anyone recommend this scene and the film?

Ride A Wild Pony?

That could be it! The pony is loosely as I remember it. Ie. White-ish, and the plot is similar to what I remember. The era is right as well. Ie. 70s.

Niw off to see if I can watch it anywhere and I will report back.

Thank you, I’m very impressed. This scene has been in my head for years.

You're welcome. I just quickly Googled the premise and it seemed like the most likely candidate so it wasn't very impressive I'm afraid. I hope that you can find confirmation soon if it's the correct film. I know how frustrating trying to work out a long forgotten movie can be.

Was it a Friday film special one?
