DH is watching one, is it me or are they all the same? Bad cockney accents, boring plots, cliched scripts. Even decent actors look wooden and like they’re acting in a 1970s soap opera (Crossroads)

I do like Lock Stock but I’m not a fan of any of the others. The Sherlock Holmes films are ok but I wasn’t that into them. Tbf I’m probably not the target audience.

I feel like if you’ve seen Lock Stock you’ve seen them all.

I've never understood why he's rated so highly.

Like you say, seen one seem them all. Boring and predictable.

EsmeShelby · 23/02/2023 16:33

The gentlemen is good, but very much his usual product.

Galadriel90 · 23/02/2023 16:38

The only one I like is The Gentleman. Very funny. The rest are not my cup of tea.

beguilingeyes · 24/02/2023 12:18

They're all very blokey aren't they. Don't appeal. I didn't enjoy The Gentleman. I have a similar aversion to Quentin Tarantino.

dangermousesfriend · 06/03/2023 11:10

I loved The Gentleman. Was surprised how much I enjoyed it tbh. Hugh Grant was fantastic.

monsterradeliciosa · 06/03/2023 11:17

You're right. They had a huge impact on me but I was a teen.

I think Ritchie was of his time. I think LockStock and Snacth have some great one liners, scenes, and performances though.

I would say the same about Tarantino though about the huge impact and being a teen, however those movies stood the test of time.

CrossPurposes · 06/03/2023 13:57

I liked the Sherlock Holmes films but The Man from UNCLE was unwatchable.

edithjc · 13/03/2023 06:51

I watched Wrath of Man and very much liked that. An action film that was captivating all through. One of the good roles of Statham.

NeedToKnow101 · 13/03/2023 07:23

I like some of his films

Sux2buthen · 13/03/2023 12:15

I love snatch and lock stock but snatch more so.
They're light hearted and fun (a little violent too lol) but they don't pretend to be anything else.
Snatch is so quotable

Lock, Stock was groundbreaking, an excellent film. The rest of his work is dreary repetitive stuff, slightly redeemed, on occasion, by Hugh Grant who plays sleaze with it oozing from every pore. Never thought I'd become a Hughie fan so late in life but he's matured into a very good actor.

beguilingeyes · 08/04/2023 13:55

I bloody love Hugh Grant. His turn in Paddington 2 is a joy.
He was fantastic in that Jeremy Thorpe thing also.

shivawn · 08/04/2023 13:56

I absolutely love Snatch, don't even know how many times I've seen it but I still enjoy it everytime.

newnamethanks · 09/04/2023 23:08

A vote in support of Hugh G as Jeremy Thorpe, he was excellent in that role. When I heard he'd been cast as Thorpe, I was not enthusiastic but he absolutely personified awful Thorpe, a complete transformation from the usual HG. And yes, great In Paddington2. I saw him being interviewed by someone on tv who asked him whether he was aware that he'd achieved such a contrast in the 2 roles. He was kind enough to not say 'yes dear, it's called acting' but I felt for him. Great restraint.

A film titled Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre has been released this year. Latest Guy Ritchie film. Starring Statham. There's also Hugh Grant in it. I haven't watched it yet. Got to.

newnamethanks · 18/04/2023 17:12

Operation Fortune is free on Prime. Its just how you think it will be.
