I'm hoping An Cailín Ciún wins best foreign language film. It's a lovely movie, well worth a watch. Carrie Crowley deserved a nomination for her part in it.

Hoping too Kerry Condon gets Best Supporting Actress for her part in The Banshees of Inisherin and Barry Keoghan wins Best Supporting Actor for his fantastic but heartbreaking portrayal in Banshees also.

I wasn't a fan of the film but delightful by its nominations.

As 'All quiet on the western front' has been nominated for best picture in the overall category, it is almost guaranteed to win the best foreign language film.

LadyEloise1 · 24/01/2023 16:13

Ah ok. I haven't seen it.

I would actually really like it if Top Gun Maverick won best picture. It was bloody great, I haven't enjoyed a film so much in years. Zero chance though!

RoseThornside · 24/01/2023 16:20

I agree, Barry Keoghan was heart-breaking. I enjoyed that film very much.

I am amazed All Quiet On The Western Front got so many noms. I thought it was pretty standard. I mean the book is brilliant but they changed the film for the worse IMO. I can only assume Americans have never heard of the book and its all news to them.

I thought it was generally a really boring list apart from Paul Mescal as best actor which was an absolute delight.

I turned it off and I liked the book too, which we read at school.

Hoping Cate Blanchett and Brendan Fraser get the wins! Haven't seen all films but a fair few

FuckabethFuckor · 24/01/2023 16:32

I'd like to see Michelle Yeoh and Brendan Fraser walk off with the acting awards. Angela Basset and Brendan Gleeson for supporting.

OnaBegonia · 24/01/2023 16:45

Top Gun is possibly one of the worst movies I've seen in recent years, how it even got nominated is a mystery.

ohdearydearieme · 24/01/2023 17:05

Absolutely adored Banshees!

PicklesAndTequila · 24/01/2023 17:09

I loved Top Gun, and Banshees.
V different but both great.

I'd like Cate Blanchett and Paul Mescal to win.

Greatly · 24/01/2023 20:29

But I'm pretty sure Austin Butler will win.

This! Bloody loved it to, a gloriously epic adrenaline rush of a cheese fest Grin I had the biggest gormless grin on my face when we left the cinema.

However All Quiet was excellent and should win really

EachandEveryone · 24/01/2023 20:38

I loved Elvis and thought it would have more nominations. Theres a couple of films online so I will give them a go.

WandaWonder · 24/01/2023 20:54

I thought Top Gun was OK but not oscar standard

UWhatNow · 24/01/2023 20:54

I just wish they’d make good solid blockbuster films to be watched endlessly and loved. They should be the ones nominated for awards. Instead of niche, dreary, worthy films that nobody ever really watches more than once.

Southeastdweller · 24/01/2023 20:54

Andrea Riseborough was a major shock. She's supposed to be amazing in that film - To Leslie. It's on iTunes and Prime.

I absolutely love her. She's one of my favourite actresses.

LlynTegid · 25/01/2023 20:27

Glad to see a nomination for Ruben Ostlund as Director, and Close as best foreign language film.

AllAboutMargot · 25/01/2023 21:27

Andrea Riseborough, Best Actress.

Southeastdweller · 25/01/2023 22:04

Just watched Aftersun. Paul Mescal did nothing at all to merit his nomination and the film was really boring.

Poor you! I thought it was a beautiful film. I did see it in the cinema which may have helped.

mathanxiety · 25/01/2023 22:48

It's so exciting to see an Irish language film, let alone one nominated for an Oscar.

Hope this is the beginning of the huge recognition Carrie Crowley deserves.
