Hi All

Looking for recommendations of
films to watch with my 12 year old, preferably on either Netflix or Sky Cinema.

Bonus points for strong female leads!

Many thanks 😊

Great thanks, we have seen Legally Blonde but none of the others. Some recommendations that I haven’t heard of there too!

Catherine Called Birdy on Netflix is an excellent watch and a strong role model for girls

The English on BBC catch up, best watch of the year, may not be 12 though.

These are the films I loved when I was 12 that I still love now:

  1. Bad News Bears (the original)
  2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
  3. Barefoot in the Park
  4. All the President’s Men
  5. West Side Story (the original)
  6. On the Town (I just loved this film)
  7. Paper Moon
  8. Kramer V Kramer
  9. Ordinary People
  10. The Graduate (my all time favourite)

I also loved anything directed by Hitchcock, Spielberg, or as I got a bit older, Scorcese.

I’m grateful to have grown up in the 70s and 80s when film was still an art form. So many amazing films to choose from. I would struggle to come up with five from the past 20 odd years.
