Has anyone seen this? Intrigued by all the good reviews but worried it’s too depressing?

It's well shot and acted but I'm baffled by the rave reviews. I found it a total non-event.

I agree pink. Find some films they so hyped up.

I've just watched this in the cinema and it's astonishing. Very demanding of attention as the lack of conventional storyline (not a criticism) means you can't look away for an instant. Top acting and excellent music.

I'm going back next week to see it again.

God, this was boring. And why was Paul Mescal nominated for an Oscar for this?!

I’ve just seen it and it’s broken me too. It’s very close to home and I’ll be thinking about it for a long time I’m sure.

I watched it recently and it's still haunting me. Absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking film.

I saw it and thought it was just... Ok. I was expecting to be blown away by it but wasn't. The child actor was excellent though.

And 4 of the points were because I fancy the actor.

Saw this film a few weeks ago and it has stayed with me. There was a feeling of dread in it from the beginning. I kept waiting for something really horrible to happen to the girl.

It is heavy going but both are great in it. I thought it very drawn out. Its good yes.

The people that didn’t get it… is it because you’ve not had experiences/association with people who have poor mental health? I don’t personally understand how people don’t understand.

Outing, but Paul Mescal is the spit of my brother, who has tried to take his own life. So it was incredibly pertinent.

Watched it tonight and it broke me too
i just love how it subtly builds …
beautiful, shimmering sadness , love memories
i had tears streaming down my face as the credits rolled

I just loved it and feel it will linger with me a long long time

I sort of felt like this. Went to see it as nice to see a Scottish based/Scottish characters in a film, and I did feel it was beautifully acted. Other than that I thought it was just middling. I think it still had the feeling of a student film and needed some cutting to make elements of it much clearer.

I don’t think anyone has said they don’t understand the concept of the film. It’s one of my pet hates (always happens to me with A Little Life) when someone implies you must just not understand a piece of cinema/literature/art because you say you don’t think it was very good or don’t see it as exceptional whilst others do. I see that it was beautifully acted from Mescal and handled certain themes well. I don’t think that exempts it from being a middling film.

I enjoyed it. Both actors are great. I liked the nostalgic feel of it. I would have preferred a more concrete ending to round it up.
