I’ll go first. 1917. I came out of the cinema shell shocked and so much pent up emotion I had to let out. My husband tried to talk to me to ask how I enjoyed it and I told him I couldn’t talk for fear of bursting into tears in the cinema lobby.

An American Crime. I watched it once years ago and don't think I could ever watch it again.

mossberry · 29/05/2022 13:04

The Road. I came out of the cinema feeling deeply troubled and quite depressed.

The Color Purple - absolutely breaks me every time and I feel Celie’s pain. The ending turns me into an ugly crier.

Labyrinth - I love the idea of living a life and then being pulled into a mystical world. I love the characters, story, music and humour. 8 year old me was enthralled when I watched it for the first time

ElenaSt · 29/05/2022 13:06

Black beauty when I was a child. The cruelty of humans and the noble nature of horses and ponies.

MarpleFan · 29/05/2022 13:16

Schindler’s List. I don’t think I I need to elaborate further.

tsmainsqueeze · 29/05/2022 13:32

Sophie's choice ,i could never watch it again .

HarrietSchulenberg · 29/05/2022 14:01

Schindler's List here aswell. I still couldn't watch it again.

loopylindi · 29/05/2022 14:06

Killing Fields. Compulsive but can't bear to watch it again

maythe4thbewithme · 29/05/2022 14:09

Sophie's choice
Schindler's list
War horse

Random one here....Meet Joe Black

Not sure I "get" 1917 I thought it relatively tame as war films go

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 29/05/2022 14:16

The killing of a sacred deer. i know it's far fetched but christ several scenes have stuck with me.

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 29/05/2022 14:18

Oh my god I forgot The Selfish Giant. I'm not a big crier but that got 41 year old me the same way My Girl got 11 year old me. Truly traumatic experience

JaneJeffer · 29/05/2022 14:21

Films I could not watch again:
Rosemary's Baby
Seven
Sophie's Choice

and for different reasons:
Mamma Mia Shock

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 29/05/2022 14:24

Traffic

SundayTeatime · 29/05/2022 14:26

Sarah’s Key
Minority Report

PermanentTemporary · 29/05/2022 14:27

Erm... Frankie and Johnny. Nothing like as resonant as any of these but I stayed up late to watch it and told my husband our marriage was over the following morning. Not that I expected life to be a romcom and I'm certainly not Michelle Pfeiffer. But our life was entirely based around him and his preferences and there was no room left for me in it. The film seemed to me to be about finding space in life to be yourself.

maeveiscurious · 29/05/2022 14:28

About time

LaBellina · 29/05/2022 14:28

La vita e bella

I have seen it numerous times and it still makes me emotional.

Svara · 29/05/2022 14:31

Cloud Atlas

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/05/2022 14:35

American History X. Bloody hell Ed Norton was compelling and horrifying. He should have won the Oscar.

Water ship Down. How that's a children's film I'll never know.

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/05/2022 14:39

The Children of An Lac.

cleowasmycat · 29/05/2022 14:41

The Pianist. 💔

LeavesOnTrees · 29/05/2022 14:42

Dr Zhivago. Watched it years ago one Christmas without knowing anything about it beforehand.

hedwigismyowl · 29/05/2022 14:44

War horse
Boy in the striped pyjamas
Watership down

dropthevipers · 29/05/2022 14:48

Ai No Corrida. The only film I have ever walked out of. Heavy doesn't even begin to cover it.

rubyslippers · 29/05/2022 14:49

Up
yes, it’s a cartoon but the opening twenty minutes utterly floored me
I don’t think I’ve ever watched it since
