Saw today. It is utterly bonkers and I’m not sure if masterpiece or nonsense! I did enjoy it though as it romped along. Very gory almost ridiculously so. I happen to like Viking history so enjoyed it for that reason too as I think some of it is historically accurate but it has lots of mysticism. Nicole Kidman is good and I enjoyed spotting Byork. People laughed at the end and the ending was quite funny in a gory horrible way.

I thought it was ok, quite fun but certainly not the 5 star reviews across the board that I have seen. The ending was indeed bonkers.

i really didn’t care if any of them lived or died, and generally I do need that emotional hook in a film.

I walked out at a particularly violent scene after about 20 minutes.

I thought it was ridiculous, the accents were laughable and the attempts to make it arty were pretentious and simply didn't work.

I have cineworld membership so it's not as dramatic a gesture as it sounds. Poor DH felt obliged to leave as well - he said he'll go back to watch the rest of it as was enjoying the film, so I suspect it's a Marmite one.

I kept getting Monty Python/Erik the Viking vibes and sniggering when I shouldn't, which rather spoiled it for me.

I enjoyed it, no laughing in our cinema but found it quite intense and more The Vikings than Last Kingdom with the sacrifices etc.

However I was esp impressed by the lack of shown rape. I love the afore-mentioned shoes, GOT etc but I do wish there was less shown rape. I'll take ridiculous gore for less of that.

I thought it was one of the worst films I’ve seen! I didn’t care about any of the characters. All the barking/wolf howling stuff was ridiculous. The twist with his mum was just awful, soul destroying, it defeated the whole premise of the film. And why did he have to be reminded by Bjork about his promise to get vengeance if it was so incredibly important to him?! The violence went too far. I honestly can’t understand the rave reviews!

I'd been looking for a thread on this, wish i'd seen it before we shelled out £16 to watch it on amazon (we have 3 year old twins - we never get to go out)

It was hands down the worst film I've ever seen. DH watches some truly appalling films and even he admitted it was dire.

Avoid at all costs

I was really looking forward to this film especially Alex Skarsgard and thought it was a pile of tosh. Really disappointed in the whole thing especially because the made AS look like a potato.

Deathraystare · 27/05/2022 09:41

Damn! I wanted to see it but perhaps because of the gore it is only being shown late where I am and I don't think we can get cheap tickets for those times.
