Did you love it?

Should I watch the original films/tv series/read the book?

I really enjoyed the film and really want to indulge more but wondering if this would ruin the future films.

I thought it was great though a little frustrating that it stopped when it did. I'm not going to read the books and woatbfor part 2.

I really loved it, seen it twice 😅 I'm not going near any books or previous versions, holding out for part 2!

Robinni · 01/05/2022 20:21

Gah - I can’t wait for part 2!!!

And now watching all manner of 80s sci fi to plug the void lols

Going to watch again, cracking film.

This film is amazing I've just watched it for the first time and I'm blown away, much better than the version with Kyle MacLachlan easier to understand and follow the story, can't wait for the next part now

Timeforabiscuit · 16/07/2022 08:17

Loved it! I read the books after, and I would say that while the books are a masterpiece, the film is faithful (obvious timeline shenanigans aside!) - so it wouldn't necessarily enrich what is a cinematic spectacle anyway.

yeah they've done an awesome job of worldbuilding without you feeling lost in the exposition. And so beautiful too.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 17/07/2022 19:30

If you want to read the book I won't discourage you but it is pretty hard going unless (even if) 1000+ page sci fi space opera is your normal stomping ground

you could consider the audiobook instead https://soundcloud.com/the-book-guide/dune-by-frank-herbert-free-audiobook

I loved it and I'm not usually a fantasy or Sci fi film fan.

godmum56 · 17/07/2022 19:33

cannot get past Sting in leather knickers in the original version.

Silverstreaks · 24/07/2022 18:54

Loved this so much. The colours, mood, music. The costumes! I ate it all up and wanted more immediately after.
Can't wait for the follow up. Just beautiful.

colouringindoors · 24/07/2022 21:52

That's just how I felt. So much so I saw it again a couple of weeks later (in the cinema 😊)

PhotoDad · 24/07/2022 21:58

We loved it! 3/4 of us have read the book. Only mildly annoyed it left out one of my favourite scenes (a very passive-aggressive dinner party when the Atreides arrive on Arrakis).

The first three books are great but the first will spoil you for the next film. After that I think they go downhill rapidly.

The earlier film is... a mess. I sum it up as being like a trailer (with all the highlight scenes and no explanation at all of plot) but for two solid hours.

Hyvsvaar · 24/07/2022 21:59

Absolutely loved it…the original is a bit clunky

ds has read the trilogy and has said it’s really good but he’s also read all the GOT/LOTR etc so don’t know if you need to have the mindset for epic sweeping worlds (not me)

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 25/07/2022 09:26

@Hyvsvaar yeah there's an epic sweeping space opera / fantasy thing where they use nouns without telling you what they are so the sentence doesn't exactly make sense yet but they do it over and over again and then, like natural language acquisition you learn the meaning of the noun. Holding the unknown nouns in your head and amassing the bits of circumstantial evidence of meaning is definitely an acquired skill. But the more you do it the easier it gets.

If you boggle my samevan.
