We went last night to this and I have mixed feelings.

It was brilliantly acted and based on a bizarre true story, but I had a bit of an issue that we were meant to root for the Jim Broadbent character when mainly I felt sorry for the poor wife played for Helen Mirren who had to carry the family financially whilst he went off on his causes.

On the plus side it was 96 minutes long - so much better than all these 150 minute monstrosities around.

The handwriting expert got him spot on.

I felt for the wife too. Was good to see Helen Mirren playing someone normal for a change. And to have a film set in Newcastle.

Really enjoyed it.

Other than I didn't understand the woman who the wife cleaned for coming to the court case. Other than to give the actress more to do.

You're right @jay55 the handwriting expert did have him down to a tee. So why we - as an audience - were expected to find him so endearing, was a bit of a mystery to me.
As was Motherland mum popping up in the court - although nice to see Anna Maxwell Martin looking so amazing.

Loved it!
Lighthearted and warm.
And definitely nice to watch a film and not fall asleep! DS2 went to see The Batman at the weekend of which was 3 hours long 😳

I really enjoyed it, thought the acting was very good. We went as it was 2 for 1 on Mondays. There was only 4 people in cinema.

It was especially good watching it IN Newcastle with all the local references.
